The Royal Caribbean Group’s Global Legal Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Associate Counsel, Sales and Marketing reporting to the Director, Associate Counsel.

 

The position will be based in the Miami, Florida office, and will collaborate closely with various clients located elsewhere in the United States and internationally. 

 

The position is also not eligible for work authorization sponsorship.

 

Position Summary:

 

The Associate Counsel will provide legal support and work closely with the Sales and Marketing departments of all Royal Caribbean Group cruise brands, with additional support to other business units as needed, including but not limited to, advertising, promotions, loyalty programs, travel agent partnerships, and other commercial teams. The Manager, Associate Counsel will focus on contract drafting and negotiation, commercial transactions, and advising on marketing, advertising and consumer protection matters. Often required to work on time-sensitive matters and handle a high volume of agreements, this attorney will operate with significant autonomy and have considerable direct interaction with all levels of management. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Draft, negotiate, and review a variety of commercial agreements, such as advertising agency, production, licensing, talent, influencer, sponsorship, digital marketing, e-commerce, and website design. 

  • Advise internal clients across marketing, sales, product development, onboard revenue, revenue management, and corporate communications on advertising and marketing compliance, including consumer protection laws, FTC endorsement guidelines, sweepstakes and promotions regulations, consumer data privacy, intellectual property usage rights, and indemnification and limitation of liability matters. 

  • Support Sales Operations legal needs, including customer-facing terms, passenger ticket contract updates, group sales and charter agreements, travel partner arrangements, and commission structures. 

  • Support Revenue Management legal needs, including promotional terms, gift card programs, casino and onboard revenue contracts, and pricing-related matters. 

  • Train and counsel business units on contract lifecycle management processes and tools (e.g. Agiloft CLM), contract policies, standard agreements, and specific contract clauses, as well as negotiation strategy. 

  • Monitor emerging legislative and regulatory developments affecting marketing, advertising, sales, and revenue operations across relevant jurisdictions. 

  • Resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships; manage and/or provide support on pre-litigation and litigation matters relating to the above. 

  • Proactively identify legal workflows and repetitive tasks suitable for automation or AI-assisted tools (e.g., contract review, first-draft generation, compliance monitoring), and partner with legal operations and technology teams to evaluate, pilot, and implement solutions that increase the team’s efficiency and capacity. 

  • Manage a high volume of contracts and legal requests in a timely manner, prioritize effectively in collaboration with clients, and communicate legal risks clearly and promptly to business teams. 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • At least four (4) years of experience drafting and negotiating contracts in various areas of sales, marketing, and advertising, including agency agreements, sponsorships, promotions, influencer marketing, media, and co-branding arrangements. 

  • Experience advising clients on consumer protection compliance, FTC endorsement guidelines, sweepstakes and contest regulations, and marketing-related data privacy matters. 

  • Ability to assess and communicate legal and commercial risks quickly and clearly to both lawyer and non-lawyer audiences in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. 

  • Creative, business-oriented problem solver with the ability to propose and implement practical legal solutions. 

  • Strong cross-functional collaborator, comfortable working across complex organizational structures. 

  • Experience in the cruise or hospitality industry is a plus. 

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school. Law review a plus. 

  • Membership in the Florida Bar or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel.
