The Role

 

The Manager, Electrical Systems provides expert technical support for Marine Technical Operations and onboard teams. The role oversees major electrical repairs, projects, and maintenance—including capital and dry‑dock work—while ensuring regulatory compliance, managing obsolescence, and implementing corrective actions across the fleet.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Technical Leadership & Support

  • Serve as the specialist for electrical systems, providing technical guidance to shipboard and shore‑based teams.
  • Lead and oversee large‑scale electrical repairs and projects.
  • Plan and manage electrical components of capital projects and dry‑dock activities.
  • Drive obsolescence and compliance strategies to maintain system reliability.
  • Monitor technical issues, ensure corrective actions, and distribute lessons learned across the fleet.

Operational Management

  • Deliver first‑ and second‑level support for electrical and automation systems to maintain safe and efficient vessel operations.
  • Maintain strong communication with Marine Technology, Marine Technical Operations, and onboard leadership.
  • Collaborate with Ship Managers on electrical issues and major project execution.
  • Support and supervise repairs and maintenance of vessel electrical systems.
  • Promote safety initiatives and adherence to best practices for shipboard electrical teams.

Compliance & Safety

  • Work with classification societies and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct vessel inspections and audits aligned with company policies.
  • Oversee electrical elements of dry‑dock, revitalization, and other major projects.
  • Investigate electrical failures and incidents, ensuring root‑cause analysis and corrective measures.
  • Follow up on class conditions, non‑conformities, and findings to ensure timely resolution.


Team Leadership & Development

  • Support onboard electrical team performance, morale, and development.
  • Participate in succession planning and promotion processes for electrical officers.
  • Assist HR with recruitment and candidate evaluation.
  • Oversee GMO‑MT electrical riding teams as needed.

Project & Vendor Management

  • Identify obsolete systems and manage upgrades.
  • Track vendor technical and safety bulletins and coordinate necessary actions.
  • Partner with the Energy Management team on efficiency projects.
  • Support Newbuilding with specifications, manning, sea trials, and warranty processes.
  • Provide electrical expertise to cross‑departmental partners including Hotel Operations, IT, Supply Chain, and PMO.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage electrical budgets in cooperation with Ship Managers.
  • Oversee CAR projects, including multi‑million‑dollar initiatives.
  • Maintain accountability for CAPEX project budgets


Qualifications / Skills

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of maritime, classification society, or equivalent experience.
  • Passenger vessel Chief Electrical Engineer experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project‑management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and budgets effectively.
  • Financial acumen and cost‑efficiency focus.
