THE ROLE
The Manager, Maritime Technical (Decarbonization) is an execution-focused decarbonization process leader responsible for implementing the Corporation’s decarbonization and Net Zero strategy in newbuild (NB) and in future cruise ship concepts. The role is responsible for further developing the NB decarbonization development process as well as harmonizing the working procedures within all NB projects. The Manager coordinates the technological development collaboration with shipyards and other stakeholders within multiple workstreams (e.g., energy efficiency, emissions abetment technologies, operational measures, energy management systems & digitalization) for achieving the decarbonization targets set for each NB project and enabling compliance with future emissions regulatory and enabling Net Zero operations of the ships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages Decarbonization, Energy Efficiency and Net Zero development processes in NB projects
• Develops further the processes and harmonizes the working procedures across the newbuild projects
• Oversees the progress throughout a NB project, from concept design to final performance verification in service
• Communicates the progress with Corporation Decarbonization Team
• Drives proactively technology development co-operation with current and potential new technology vendors
• Coordinates techno-economic feasibility studies of decarbonization initiatives and evaluates the feasibility study results
• Contributes to testing of novel technologies in NB ships
• Acts as a link between NB energy efficiency development and Fleet Energy Management team
• Participates in-house technology specific working groups
• Reports regularly to corporation leadership of the decarbonization progress in NB projects
• Supports the decarbonization development budgeting for NB projects
• Contributes to Peer Review sessions between NB and Operations for evaluating and aligning development initiatives prior implementation decision
• Collaborates with Quality Assurance Team and other relevant Teams to ensure novel technologies and solutions meet the design and quality criteria
• Conducts the energy efficiency handover to Operations
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Extensive experience (15+ years) of marine engineering technologies and decarbonization & energy efficiency development of cruise ships
• Operational experience onboard cruise ships
• Solution-focused person with ability of resolving complex problems
• Comprehensive knowledge of cruise ship energy and thermo-hydraulic simulations
• Expert level data-analytics skills
• Capable of analyzing needs and product requirements to ensure that new technology is fit for purpose
• Ability to work under tight schedules
• Able to work in multicultural working environment and willingness to travel
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Long-term experience of leading technology development R&D projects and teams
• Holistic knowledge of ship systems and understanding of operational viewpoints
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
• In-depth knowledge of SOLAS, IMO, EU and other relevant regulations
• Excellent written & verbal English, other languages as an advantage
• High level communications skills. Ability proactively to create and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, development partners and with remote based team and colleagues
• Independent and self-directed skills to lead simultaneous projects
• Strong team and network leadership skills
• Relevant computer, software, and data analytics skills
