Director, Architecture Design
The Director of Architecture & Design will oversee the architectural and creative aspects of RCG’s New Build Portfolio, supporting and guiding project leads across all brands new ship builds. In collaboration with the Sr. Director and AVP of Architecture & Innovation, this role acts as a key team leader and collaborator within the design organization, ensuring a cohesive vision and fostering a positive, innovative environment that upholds RCG’s reputation in the cruise industry.
While this position is part of the Miami-based architecture and design organization and reports to leadership in Miami, the position will be based in Turku, Finland.
Key Responsibilities:
- People-Centric Leadership: Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to project leaders, designers, and consultants. Promote professional growth and effective communication within the team.
- Creative & Design Oversight: Offer clear, constructive direction on design concepts, ensuring alignment with brand standards and innovative standards. Facilitate open dialogue and idea exchange to inspire creativity and ensure design excellence.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and consultants, building strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect. Act as a positive liaison to ensure alignment, clarity, and shared vision across all project phases.
- Process & Standards Management: Support the development and maintenance of design standards and best practices. Encourage continuous learning and improvement within the design team and project execution.
- Project Support & Communication: Oversee communication efforts, ensuring timely and transparent updates to stakeholders. Foster a team environment where feedback is valued and issues are addressed collaboratively.
- Creates & delivers communication providing clear objectives to stakeholders
- Keeps stakeholders promptly &well informed with appropriate amount of detail
- Communicates and presents key messages emphasizing business impact and as a respected face of Newbuild
- Industry Engagement & Relationships: Build and nurture relationships with industry professionals, consultants, and partners, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation.
- Leadership & Talent Development: Lead talent management efforts by mentoring team members, supporting career development, and fostering a positive work culture. Set clear expectations and performance objectives, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Team & Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement by encouraging lessons learned, sharing best practices, and refining workflows to enhance team effectiveness and project outcomes.
Performance Management
- Active talent management and career planning for all team members including Directors, Sr Managers and below. In close collaboration with Design studio leadership.
- Develops strategy and goals for team.
- Sets appropriate performance objectives for self and direct reports (or project team).
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Serve as a proxy for the Sr. Director, AVP, or VP during their absence. Collaborate closely with Sr. Directors on all matters pertaining to the design studio organization.
- Act as a supportive leader and role model within the design organization, demonstrating strong emotional intelligence, active listening, and effective communication.
- Collaborate with senior leaders and stakeholders to align team efforts with overall business strategies, ensuring a positive, motivated, and engaged team environment.
- Represent the design organization in meetings and cross-functional initiatives, advocating for team needs and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Holds self and the team accountable, taking appropriate actions to ensure achievement of performance objectives and commitments.
- Equips the team to proactively deliver on commitments, effectively communicating on status.
- Shows a strong commitment to identifying all relevant issues and making decisions that maximize impact for the portfolio. business.
- Guides the department and other executives to align team strengths and capabilities to department and business needs.
- Is the catalyst for company policies, procedures and compliance and provide clarification & guidance
