Position Summary:

 

We are looking for a suitable candidate based in Oslo, Norway. This position is responsible for building and maintaining positive government relations to support business growth in Norway. Responsibilities include smooth communication and coordination with government and other political bodies at a local, regional, and national level, engaging on policies and legislation affecting the business. The position holder will lead on-the-ground government relations efforts to ensure support for our business priorities. Please note that both English and Norwegian languages are mandatory. 

 

This position is part of Royal Caribbean Group’s Government Relations team in Europe, reporting to the Director, Government Relations UK & Nordics and working closely with them to devise and implement government relations strategies and engagement in Norway.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage government relations and political engagement activities, to support the company’s business priorities and operations.
  • Through day-to-day contact, cultivate, maintain, and develop sound relationships with government and public authorities, as well as political representatives at a local, regional, and national level in Norway.
  • Understand government policies, regulations, and legislation of relevance to the cruise industry, keep abreast of policy changes and provide timely feedback and suggestions to management whenever business is affected.
  • Arrange/coordinate all levels of government meetings.
  • Develop, promote & maintain good relations with governmental stakeholders and industry partners to enhance the company's image and obtain necessary support and good will.
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes impacting the business including analysis of political trends and policy developments.
  • Advise on and implement advocacy strategies to bring desired results in public decision-making and legislative processes.
  • Assess and report on potential impacts and risks to the business that arise from policy and other political developments.
  • Develop talking points and materials in support of the company’s objectives in Norway, leveraging our positive impact on communities and the economy.
  • Support the work of our trade associations including CLIA in Norway through its working group and other activities.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders on policy and government relations related communications and events, including the wider Corporate Affairs, Corporate Communications, Destination Development and ESG teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a politics or related subject, master’s degree in related field is advantageous.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience working in government relations, public affairs or equivalent roles for Manager, and 8+ years for Senior Manager.
  • Considerable experience interacting with working level government officials and political representatives.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of government protocol and detailed knowledge of policy implementation and legislative processes.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience within the cruise industry or travel sector will be advantageous.
  • Experience and demonstrated aptitude both managing and prioritizing multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Fluency in Norwegian and English language (oral and written) coupled with excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex business issues.
  • High level of reading and comprehension skills, particularly as it relates to public documents such as legislation, consultations, and reports on public issues.
  • Skilled at relationship building and demonstrable experience in building a stakeholder network.
  • Capable of analysing complex issues, particularly as it relates to public policy influence on the company and cruise industry.
  • Accepting and adhering to high ethical, moral, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies to secure support from key government agencies and regulators relevant to the cruise industry.
  • Able to travel domestically as well as internationally.
