Lead, Shipboard Recruiter

Position Summary / Job Purpose:

In coordination with the operations team, the culinary recruiter focuses on effectively executing the interviewing/hiring process for culinary shipboard positions at all levels. By collaborating with operational colleagues and effectively using resources to attract, identify, screen, and hire the best talent in the most efficient manner, the culinary recruiter maximizes his/her skills to benefit the organization through cost avoidance and productive contribution, while also serving informally as a team leader, to guide the other recruiter(s) with best practices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Sources and recruits candidates for culinary positions across all levels for all brands  
  • As the culinary expert, provides guidance and assists in the creation of candidate profiles for culinary roles; also coaches other recruiter(s), to help increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • As the expert recruiter, he/she also has a larger portion of the workload assignments.
  • Establishes, develops and maintains relationships with a network of recruiting agencies, executive recruiters, and related sources that efficiently recruit potential shipboard employees in accordance with company policy and procedure. Travels to various international or domestic locations as needed.
  • Previews, evaluates and selects appropriate talent directly and through various sources to meet the requirements of the departments and/or vessels¿ needs.
  • Selects appropriate applicants to meet specific functional hiring and scheduling requirements.
  • Interviews candidates to determine the individual¿s adaptability to the corporate/shipboard environment; this is done via webcam, when possible, to minimize costs.  
  • Negotiates terms and conditions regarding contract lengths salary, etc.  Makes job offers to approved candidates in accordance with company policy.  
  • Liaises with the coordinators as necessary to provide the best candidate experience every time
  • Completes the requisition process. Communicates and informs appropriate shoreside or shipboard department heads of new hire related information.
  • Ensures all new hires receive general orientation either directly or through the use of the hiring partner network.
  • Prepares various reports as required including, but not limited to, status reports, talent search reviews, and list of talent pools.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred; culinary degree most ideal
  • Minimum five years of recruitment/cruise industry experience; proven ability to source, interview and screen candidates for culinary positions at all levels (preferably shipboard positions).
  • Minimum five years¿ senior level management culinary experience preferred
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently, second language a plus.
  • Expert in culinary arts and operational leadership; must be able to gain trust of hiring managers across all brands
  • Must be available to work a flexible work schedule (often nights, as required)
  • Eloquence in both, verbal and written English; strong ability to effectively communicate in a concise and persuasive manner.
  • Knowledge of general shipboard functions on a cruise ship, and the general concept of the shipboard organization; familiarity of world geography and time differences.  
  • Expertise in recruitment best practices.  Ability to acquire knowledge of recruitment processes in various countries.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully, verbally and in writing, to gather and relay information in a multinational environment
  • Ability to lead a team in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing, and managing employees.
  • Ability to create, analyze, and summarize reports, and to implement/execute continuous improvement strategies and tactics based on the relevant information
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently train others
  • Ability to productively work under tight time constraints and stressful situations
  • Ability to travel often/as needed (internationally and domestically)
  • Knowledge of automated human resources systems preferred
  • Proficiency in various software programs, including ATS, and other  web-based service tools and MS suite packages; ability to quickly learn new systems
