Lead, Learning Experience Design

Position Summary:  

The Lead, Instructional Design individual is a key member of the Learning and Development (L+D) team. This role sits within an internal team serving as learning design and development experts in the Human Resources – Learning Center of Excellence (COE). Individuals in the department have deep expertise through formal education and practical experience building learning programs through a variety of delivery methods (e.g., instructor-led training, eLearning, video). 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Design and develop training products across a wide spectrum (e.g., Instructor-led training, virtual instructor-led, eLearning, video, job aids, print manuals, conference workshop, and experiential learning activities) for brand, discipline, technology, and enterprise-wide training projects as assigned 

  • Work in conjunction with L+D COE team members to design a full spectrum of leadership development opportunities, to include continually enhancing a curriculum of formal courses and introducing informal and experiential learning experiences tailored to participants 

  • Lead Design-Thinking client sessions as needed to help further define learning experiences to be created 

  • Write statements of work, proposals, and RFPs as appropriate that clearly articulate learning and development needs for the project, identifying the resources, learning objectives, output milestones, budget, and timeline for each project 

  • Make recommendations regarding design approach, e.g., build, buy or curate content to meet the needs of the project 

  • Write content with little information to begin with in some cases; independently research and navigate the organization and external marketplace to find relevant information with/without subject matter experts (SME) assistance 

  • Write instructional objectives, develop content for storyboards, create production schedules, and outline video/photo assets as needed 

  • Ensure the creation of all learning solutions maintain high standards of excellence in design, instructional soundness, and meets the business needs within the project parameters (e.g., time, budget, business objectives) 

  • Solicit and incorporate feedback from subject matter experts and assess evaluation feedback to make appropriate changes 

  • Plan and execute learning designs for all projects to ensure stakeholders are appropriately informed and support the learning approach 

  • Perform quality assurance testing/proofreading and organize updates to existing learning materials 

  • Responsible for overall project management and oversight of projects assigned (e.g., scope, the timing of deliverables, feedback & review sessions) 

  • Responsible for sourcing external vendors as appropriate and presenting senior L+D and RCG executives’ final proposals and contracts for approval 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills: 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Education, Business, Communications, Hospitality, or related field 

  • 3 years of related work experience developing training programs, products, and solutions 

  • Frequent responsibility for creating and managing project deliverables on complex / large-scale projects dealing with technical skills-based training as well training for softer / behavioral skills training programs 

  • Experience developing sound instructional objectives, exams/certifications, and learning measurement strategies 

  • Experience crafting storyboards, writing scripts, and working collaboratively with development peers (internal and with external vendors) to produce a mix of print and digital training products with exceptional quality and design aesthetic 

  • Prior experience working in a multi-brand, global industry is preferred. 

  • Practical experience working on and leading projects across a mix of disciplines (e.g., Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Legal). 

  • Demonstrated success working in a complex, service-intensive, deadline-driven environment 

  • Demonstrated success in working with and influencing cross-functional work teams in a matrix organization 

  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects on time and on budget. 

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions in a timely manner sometimes with incomplete information, under tight deadlines and in high pressure situations 

  • History of consistently delivering positive business results 

  • History of developing others and self in the learning / training discipline 

  • History of external involvement in professional associations and learning-related organizations 

  • Functional knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop) and eLearning development tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, Storyline and others preferred but not required 

  • Excellent written communication skills 

  • Strong design and development experience and demonstrated ability in applying adult learning theory and Instructional Design and Development methodologies (i.e., Successive Approximation Model (SAM)), using a variety of innovative approaches for rapid and iterative development. 

  • Ability to rapidly formulate Proof of Concepts to create innovative, experiential and on-brand learning experiences. 

  • Possess strong content writing ability, creativity, attention to detail and excellent proofing and editing skills. 

  • Possess a high degree of technical proficiency and ongoing personal development with software programs necessary for the position: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders at varying levels of management with credibility. 

  • Ability to be detailed oriented, while maintaining alignment with broader organization objectives. 

  • Familiarity with educational technology and multi-media design – in particular the process for eLearning, video, and web development. 

  • Familiarity with photo and video shoot lifecycle – all phases from pre- though post- production, with particular emphasis on script writing and storyboarding. 

  • Comfort with complexity, ambiguity, and change. 

  • Comfort with abstract concepts and ideas as initial business needs are scoped. 

  • Confidence with translating client needs into forward-thinking products and solutions. 

  • Self-starter with self-confidence, enthusiasm, and strong customer service orientation. 

  • Manages time well, correctly prioritizes tasks, and is flexible.
