Epidemiologist Consultant
POSITION SUMMARY
The Epidemiologist Consultant serves as a key subject matter expert within the Public Health function, responsible for advancing data-driven strategies that protect and optimize crew and passenger health across the fleet. Reporting to the Public Health Manager for Infection Control, this role provides expert epidemiologic guidance to support population health programs, outbreak prevention, risk mitigation, and operational decision-making.
The position bridges surveillance, analytics, and program design, translating epidemiologic intelligence into practical recommendations, policy input, and cross-functional action. This role is expected to influence enterprise health strategies by evaluating risks, synthesizing evidence, and advising stakeholders on effective public health interventions.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide expert leadership in the design, evaluation, and continuous optimization of integrated surveillance systems aligned with public health priorities (e.g., communicable diseases, chronic disease trends, behavioral health indicators).
- Monitor and interpret disease incidence and prevalence trends, and assess their implications for shipboard populations, to support evidence-based public health action.
- Collect and analyze health data to identify emerging patterns, trends, and risks, and translate findings into strategic response recommendations.
- Support infectious disease outbreak investigations through epidemiologic analyses, providing leadership with actionable guidance on containment, mitigation, and operational response strategies.
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments of global public health threats, including emerging infectious diseases, to inform preparedness and response planning.
- Leverage global data surveillance systems to assess health risk, perform predictive analysis, and guide proactive interventions.
- Conduct epidemiologic research and population health analyses focused on crew health, with emphasis on chronic disease management, vaccination strategy, and preventive health initiatives.
- Collaborate with clinical, operational, and leadership stakeholders to integrate epidemiologic insights into fleet-wide health strategies and policies.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in epidemiology, with strong exposure to surveillance systems, outbreak investigation, and population health analytics.
- Advanced proficiency in epidemiologic analysis, data interpretation, and visualization, including experience with analytic tools used to support executive and operational decision-making.
- Experience in shipboard populations, remote workforce settings, or similarly complex operational environments is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience advising leadership, shaping strategic public health programs, and influencing policy or operational decisions through evidence-based recommendations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, practical recommendations for diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
