Buyer III
Position Summary / Job Purpose:
This position sources and procures goods/services for projects and our technical/marine. Receives requests from content owners/shipboard or shoreside customers and validates specifications/requirements. Seeks and offers alternatives for cost savings and timely delivery of goods/services. The incumbent is responsible for processing high volume of orders depending on scope assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives requisitions for goods/services and clarifies needs with requestor. Sources and negotiates specified requirements or seeks alternatives from a variety of usual and unusual sources to resolve issues.
- Makes procurement decisions and recommendations based on price, availability, transportation and delivery schedule. Provides recommendations and analysis of proposed cost savings solutions for customer and management selection.
- Liaises with shipboard and/or shoreside personnel, suppliers and logistics to ensure proper ordering and timely delivery of good and services to operational vessels or projects without interruption.
- Monitors supplier performance to ensure consistent service, high quality and low costs of goods/services, and addresses deviations with management.
- Processes emergency orders for goods/services required for compliance with USPH and USCG. Obtains all necessary approvals and completes required transportation forms in a timely manner to meet the operational/project needs.
- Processes contract orders in accordance to established terms and conditions.
- Responsible for researching and resolving issues including delivery failures, delivery discrepancies and invoices in disputes.
- Responsible for meeting with customers regularly to provide status updates on open orders.
- May travel to visit ships, suppliers or project site for loadings, audits, etc.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
- Associate degree or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
- 3-5 yrs. of procurement experience
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and general public
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Demonstrate common sense and sense of urgency in all required business transactions
- Ability to travel domestic and international, up to 20% of the time
