The Royal Caribbean Group has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Staff Accountant reporting to the Senior Accountant II, Cash Operations.

 

This position works on-site in Miramar, Florida

 

Position Summary:

This is a staff accountant level position having responsibility for all aspects of the reconciliation process over the reservations and corporate accounting transactions for multi-million-dollar revenue and/or expense categories of the global company (including the Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Silvesea brands).

 

This person performs duties that involve analyzing, validating and processing of related transactions. This person is responsible for adhering to Sarbanes-Oxley controls, accounting policies and principles as well as departmental procedures as determined by Management. It requires interaction with Operating and Financial groups, Corporate Accounting, Collections, Revenue Accounting, Information Technology, Treasury, International Accounting, independent and internal auditors, external vendors, revenue partners and Accounting Management.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare daily reconciliations of cash receipts in all currencies for 45+ general ledger accounts and document discrepancies, when applicable, related to data interfaces between the AS400 reservation system and the JD Edwards general ledger system and bank statements for the processing of credit cards, gift certificates, checks, money orders, wire transfers, and other forms of payment received for cruise reservations and miscellaneous corporate receipts.
  • Prepare daily reconciliations for credit card settlements to multiple credit card processors, ensuring successful transmissions of credit card submissions and receipts of funding.
  • Work with Treasury to validate actual funding when there are forecast variances.
  • Prepare daily reconciliations for ACH receipts from CruisePay online travel agent payment tool.
  • Ensure accuracy of all payment transactions, works with rejections or non-posted items impacting the creation and execution of payments. Advise the respective department or personnel to process adjustments needed. Notify supervisor or management of any potential system issues identified through the reconciliation process that impacts the creation and execution of payments so that the appropriate course of action needed may be taken.
  • Assist with audit requests from independent and/or internal auditors by providing support by required deadline. Meet with auditors as needed for any follow-up questions.
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing on financial systems or upgrades/modifications of existing systems.
  • Assist in the documentation of departmental procedures related to accounting functions.
  • Participate in projects and/or perform other job-related duties.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent in Accounting or related business field from a four-year college or university.
  • Three to four years’ experience and/or training in related field or equivalent combination of education and business experience.
  • Working knowledge of IBM AS400 Reservation and AS400 Query applications and experience with JD Edwards or similar accounting system. Banking applications/portals experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Windows Operating system, PC spreadsheets and word processing applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of automated computer system and e-mail applications such as Outlook and Lotus Notes.
  • Ability to function in a high-volume deadline-oriented environment as well as handling multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to research and make well thought out decisions, address and escalate priority situations and provide recommendations.
  • Ability to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
  • Ability to properly communicate with various departments concerning funding verification and validation related issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of cruise industry.
