Staff Accountant, Accounts Payable

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for all aspects of the payment process (i.e. disbursements, rejections, void transactions etc.) made on behalf of Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Azamara and several international offices. Requires sound judgment in securing funds and completing payments to accommodate exceptions and/or challenges presented by the business. It requires a strong knowledge and understanding of electronic payments for both domestic and international.  This position requires extensive interaction with Treasury and Financial Operating groups.  Responsible for compliance with Sarbanes Oxley, Accounting procedures and departmental policy.   


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with Treasury to manage daily cash requirements by generating reports and analyzing the data for accounts payable processes.
  • Responsible for executing all forms of payments including checks, ACHs, IACHs, EDIs, Wires, SEPA, and Traders, and transactions in multiple currencies (USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, CHF, NOK, DKK, SEK, AUD, MXN,  etc.)
  • Manages the check payment process via Positive Pay functionality, the manual and electronic payment process to ensure all are properly executed and approved within accepted terms.  Works with different banking systems such as JP Morgan Access and Chase Insight.  Defines the criteria within JDE required for the different payment transmissions.
  • Ensures accuracy of all payment transactions, works with rejections and potential system issues impacting the creation and execution of payments. Formulates the appropriate course of action to address exceptions and/or adjustments needed.  Requires sound judgment in securing funds and completing payments to accommodate exceptions and/or challenges presented by the business.
  • Responsible for the execution of all special handling requests including urgent/emergency payments, payment status confirmations, stop payments, re-issuance, etc. 
  • Ensures that payment transactions adhere to the established controls for approval limits and exceptions related to high dollar amounts. Audits Address Book records on a weekly basis for accuracy and proper approvals.
  • Provides support for the Unclaimed Property function by re-classing transactions and following through the due diligence process.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelor in Accounting or related business field.
  • Three to four years¿ experience in Accounting and/or Finance.  Accounts Payable experience a plus. 
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be an independent thinker and decision maker.
  • Ability to research and make well thought out decisions, address and escalate priority situations and provide recommendations.
  • Must be literate in Windows operating system, Excel, Word. Must have knowledge of financial control systems, JD Edwards. Banking applications/portals experience preferred.
  • Must be able to function in a high volume deadline oriented environment focusing on maintaining attention to detail
