Senior Financial Analyst Capital Projects

Position Summary:

The Sr. Financial Analyst, Capital Projects role is responsible for the preparation of business analysis and budgets related to capital projects as well as participating in strategic plans, annual plans and forecasts for such projects. The position reports to the Sr. Manager, Tech Finance, Capital Projects and is part of a team of 5 Sr. Analysts working on multiple capital projects.

Responsibilities also include financial reporting, preparation of presentations, financial document gathering/retention, preparation of journal entries and accounting amortizations as well as labor analysis. This position participates in the execution of internal controls such as requisition/PO review and approval.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

List the 8-10 key areas of responsibility in descending order, with the responsibility requiring the most amount of time first.  Use specific action verbs such as “manages”, “analyzes”, “files”, etc.


  1. Prepare business analysis and budgets for capital projects.
  2. Participates in the preparation of capital strategic plans, annual plans and monthly forecasts.
  3. Prepare financial reports and financial presentations.
  4. Analysis all aspects of capital projects, including labor and non-labor elements, against budgets, best practices and trends.
  5. Gathers and retains essential documentation supporting financial budgets and analysis.
  6. Prepares journal entries and accounting amortizations.
  7. Reviews and approves spend requisition requests (capital projects and operating expense) by operating team.  Includes confirming approved funding and comparing to forecasts/budgets as well as validation of whether capital activity can be capitalized (set guidelines) deferred or expensed.  Work closely with spend owners and procurement.   
  8. Assist with ad hoc financial analyses.



Financial Responsibilities


Support overall Tech organization financial goals/objectives.


List the minimum level of education and experience required to perform the work at the entry level of the job. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience with medium to large-sized company.
  • Experience applying finance and accounting principles is essential.
  • Tech Finance or technology-related experience highly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with JD Edwards/Oracle financial applications is preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organization, verbal & written communication skills.
  • Fast learner who works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have excellent spreadsheet and analytical skills.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Excel, Word, & PowerPoint.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work under tight timelines, prioritizing assignments as needed.
