Senior Accountant II, Revenue Recognition

Position Summary:

This is an accountant/supervisory position, having controllership responsibility over Ticket Revenue and Expenses for multi-million dollar revenue and/or expense categories of the Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Azamara and Pullmantur brands. This person supervises/coordinates activity of staff engaged in the analyzing, validating and processing of voyage/passenger level data extracted from the reservation system and the posting of financial transactions to the General Ledger.  This person will be expected to become the subject matter expert on all aspects of Ticket Revenue for all brands and is considered stand in for management in their absence. This position requires extensive interaction with Operating and Financial groups, Information Technology, external vendors and/or Revenue Partners and Accounting Management.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages five Coordinators to ensure adherence to Sarbanes Oxley internal controls, procedural / accounting policies and achievement of departmental goals.
  • Applies General Accepted Accounting Practices to determine accurate accounting and provides instructions to Operational Departments on recording ticket revenue, expense and liability related financial transactions.
  • Participates/coordinates current and suggested accounting treatment for specific Ticket Revenue/Expense related transactions for the purpose of supporting the writing of position papers and maintaining GAAP principles and brand consistency.
  • Works directly with upper management on monthly financial results and special projects as assigned.
  • Applies accounting concepts and policies in the preparation and review of ticket related financial transactions which may include but are not limited to revenue recognition, high volume complex accruals, incidents, prepaid expenses, payables/liabilities and monthly reclasses.
  • Assists management in the analysis and identification of significant Month over Month/Year over Year flux drivers relating to P & L and Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensures timely resolution on outstanding items.
  • Assists management in generating financial schedules, Sarbanes Oxley documentation, and other items for external and internal auditors as needed.
  • Conducts User Acceptance Testing on financial systems or upgrades/modifications of existing systems and determines whether accounting / reporting requirements are adequately met.
  • Assists management in hiring, evaluating performance and conducting performance reviews for direct reports.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Integral part of department responsible for the proper accounting of approximately $6.1 billion dollars of Gross Ticket  Revenues, $980 million dollars of Commissions and Travel and Lodging expenses and $50 million dollars of Other Revenue and Expenses.



  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting 
  • 4-5 years general Accounting and Supervisory/Management experience. 
  • Continued education in Masters Program or CPA preferred


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in general accounting and supervisory responsibilities. 
  • Proficient system aptitude, including report writing capabilities. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Efficient time management skills
  • Working knowledge of IBM AS400 environment and PC based applications (Excel/Word/Lotus Notes)
  • Experience with JD Edwards or similar Accounting software.
