Manager, Technical Product

The Royal Caribbean Group’s Technical Product Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Manager, Technical Product role reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Product.


This position will work on-site in the Miramar, Florida office.


 

Position Summary

The Technical Product Manager oversees the Marine product suite & ensures that it meets all internal shareholders' needs and preferences. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Determining the product's overall vision, identifying, and managing business requirements for all stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well with internal teams, including developers, engineers, architects, quality assurance, and operations. Ensure requirements are fully understood and that implementation plans match expectations.
  • Uncover and prioritize new customer needs and transpose them into requirements for a product roadmap.
  • Evaluate & collaborate on the offerings of each vendor’s Maintenance Planning product and its capabilities.
  • Evaluate & execute architecture diagrams for a cloud-only or a Hybrid solution, considering shipboard infrastructure and onboard business end-user needs.
  • Assess and address technical risks with the RCG Risk Assessment & Cyber Security teams.
  • Understand and analyze data pipeline integrations with financial & vendor management systems.
  • Coordinate beta tests, conduct a final review, and submit their approval before releasing the product to clients.
  • Define success criteria for testing and product acceptance.
  • Facilitate the creation and maintenance of proper product documentation.
  • Analyzing wants, needs, and expectations of the business.
  • Analyzing the front-end experience that the product will fulfill for our customers.
  • Working with vendors’ dev engineers in designing, testing, and developing/upgrading vendor software to meet those needs.
  • Working with the architects to design product integration & deployment on ships and shore.
  • Working with the security and compliance team to ensure the product design and deployment meet RCG-approved compliance standards. 
  • Working with various Product Managers, Product engineers, and supply chain in defining the sustainability & application compatibility with obsolete hardware changes and OS (Operating System) upgrades for all current and new products as part of the roadmap.
  • Recommending upgrades for existing systems and programs and the Senior engineers to the vendor.
  • Ensuring continued functionality of a program during maintenance and testing of software
  • Documenting each aspect of a system or application as a reference for future upgrades and maintenance. 
  • Ensuring all product implementations go through an operational readiness review and working closely with the Fleet Operations team to complete this as part of the transition to production.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of marine, safety, and security shipboard products.
  • Proficient in SQL, PL/SQL, scripting, and triggers
  • Strong understanding of workflow setup
  • In-depth knowledge of computing in a highly distributed environment with multiple databases
  • Basic financial understanding, including accounts, budget codes, SOX compliance, and a focus on preventing unauthorized changes with robust logging
  • Work experience in enterprise-level VMware environments
  • Working knowledge of product development architecture
  • Knowledge of design quality standards
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through its actual launch. 
  • Experience with mission-critical, 24x7 systems

 

Software Product Management

  • Discusses software licensing and pricing structures and options.
  • Has experience with multiple products or multiple releases of a critical product.
  • Gathers summarizes and prioritizes ideas for new or new product versions.
  • Describes the purpose of and methodology for a product usability analysis.
  • Participates in defining, estimating, and pricing special enhancement requests.
  • Manages conflicts between business units, sales, marketing, and engineering teams.
     

Product Health

  • Assesses product following established processes and procedures; generates regular reports on results.
  • Manages reliability improvement projects and defines success criteria.
  • Consults on the implementation of accelerated testing methods.
  • Monitors the operation of product processes and procedures.
  • Analyzes and optimizes processes to improve hardware reliability in production. 

 

Customer Empathy:

  • Solicits guest satisfaction feedback and acts on improvement opportunities.
  • Meets regularly with our customers to understand their wants, needs, and expectations.
  • Fosters strong customer relationships via delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback/improvement.
  • Facilitates the creation of the 'right' products and services to resolve guest business issues with mind maps and user stories.
  • Measures and observes operational satisfaction levels to ascertain and implement service improvement alternatives.

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in business, product management, or a relevant technical field
  • Degree in Scrum & Agile Software development Methodology
  • Certifications with Marine inventory and Maintenance Plan management platforms
  • 5 years in a product management role, with at least one year in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Shipboard Experience in the Marine\IT departments for the cruise industry is not required but is regarded as a plus.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here represent those requirements employees must meet to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation. The employee may move about the office complex, travel to other office locations, and lift, push, pull, or move 10-15 pounds. Work Environment

  • The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the job's essential functions. The environment includes work inside/outside the office.
  • Standard work week: Our regular business hours are 9 am - 6 pm M-F. All candidates must be available to work those hours. Some weekend and overtime work may be required.
  • Travel Required: Yes. The candidate will be required to travel up to 30%.
  • Travel Description: The position would require travel to visit the business partners we support, ranging from 20-30%.
