Sr. Director, Commercial Strategy, Newbuilding & Innovation

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a key member of the Newbuild & Innovation team reporting directly to the SVP, Chief Strategy & Commercial Officer. The Sr. Director of Commercial Strategy oversees the process and team that will be responsible for commercial and risk management for the multi-billion-dollar existing and future newbuild fleet portfolio. 

This role will have significant responsibility in overseeing the commercial activities along with helping to define, shape, and execute the company’s agenda for major strategic initiatives related to the future of newbuilding. The Sr. Director will work directly with Sr. Executives cross-functionally to generate and/or drive broad ranging strategic initiatives, evaluate growth and innovation opportunities, and lead the generation of analytically driven and actionable insights to influence activities across the organization. 

This position needs to have the experience, maturity, and confidence to interface with company executives, key newbuilding partners, business owners and humble self-aware personal styles that enable them to lead cross-functional teams to consensus around solutions. Significant experience with newbuilding, construction and/or other large scale transactional contracts is required for this role.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs strategic analysis and develops/strategizes a plan to assess industry and competitive landscape, areas of strategic focus, and growth opportunities related to our newbuild portfolio.  
  • Develops and maintain relations with key industry participants and potential targets.
  • Leads the team to conduct and maintain significant ownership of analysis and vetting of potential partnerships and newbuilding projects for strategic fit and financial impact on RCG and present to executive management.
  • Defines business drivers and inputs, refine, and oversee financial analysis performed by staff and outside advisors.
  • Leads the reporting on research, status of contracts and project status and provide summaries to executive management.
  • Works collaboratively with financial, legal, design and other operational teams and functional leaders to identify key issues and conduct additional / follow-up due diligence work streams.
  • Develops CEO and / or Board of Directors memoranda’s and presentations.
  • Oversees and manage significant deal structuring and negotiations regarding key projects.
  • Motivates and engages direct reports, including providing day-to-day direction, mentorship, and coaching.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s and MBA required; CFA preferred.
  • 10 - 20 years of experience of large-scale project, construction legal or finance background, consulting, or private equity experience
  • Cruise or travel industry experience a strong plus.
  • Strong contracts, large scale projects, financial modeling, and business plan analysis experience.
  • Excellent writing and presentation creation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and peer management skills.
  • Extensive experience with legal contracts and understanding of business terms.
  • Self-starter with intellectual curiosity, a strong desire to learn, and passion for creating an excellent work product.
  • Demonstrated team player with ability to manage and develop analysts.
