Royal Caribbean Group’s Procurement team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Sr. Scheduler reporting to the Mgr., Workforce Planning Strategy and Movement.

 

This role will work onsite in Miami, Florida.

 

Position Summary


This position reports to the Mgr., Workforce Planning Strategy and Movement. In this position, the Lead is responsible for WFP Strategies and Planning and provides short-and long-term workforce recruiting, planning, and scheduling services. These services meet the operational guidelines from the Manager and Fleet Operations Management and provide for the workforce needs of the fleet.

Leads long and short-term workforce planning strategies and logistics for functional departments in Fleet Operations. Follows operational guidelines and directives from Fleet Operations and the available SME.

The team leader ensures that the team complies with the processes and procedures established by Fleet Par Levels; operational initiatives required for scheduling, and the placement of new hires. Provides on the job training and identifies the best recruitment sources for the specific needs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides long-term and short-term workforce plans (schedules) for departments and positions as assigned.
  • Interprets and uses data to suggest improvements in the long-term and guides short-term planning,
  • Provides recommendations to solve potential planning issues, performs root cause analysis when necessary.
  • Leads the overseas team to ensure proper planning and rotation for the shipboard department.
  • Designs and implements process controls, generates, sets up, and executes continuous improvement ideas.
  • Provides functional areas within Fleet Operations with systematic information supporting an effective par-level planning process and related procedures.
  • Coordinates logistics for “just in time” sign-on/off, acting as a liaison between Corporate Travel, shipboard management, and external hiring sources.
  • Ensures effective communication with SMEs, Planners, Crew Assist, and Post Movement Analysts in workforce planning, succession planning, recruitment, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Comply with applicable rules and regulations, including but not limited to SQM, flag state and port state legislation, collective bargaining agreements, and company policies in all aspects relating to workforce planning.
  • Provides complete and accurate employee data in the Human Resources system for assigned departments and positions, including performance data for succession planning. 
  • Liaisons with Crew Medical and HR regarding shipboard employees on medical leave.
  • Liaisons with Shipboard Operations and HR as needed regarding new build preparations
  • Supervises compliance to established Par Levels, Step-Up, Team, Rotations and other operational initiatives
  • Ensure team members follow an established process to place suitable candidate selections on ships.
  • Clear understanding of GAP Pool & internal promotions processes by all team members maintained in a ¿ready to work¿ Pool of qualified and experienced candidates.
  • Clear understanding of the various brands on board, lifestyle and our brand service philosophies for communication with potential candidates.
  • Ensure all team members understand the communication of policies and procedures.
  • Seeks to improve and optimize the team’s effectiveness in the scheduling and logistics processes.
  • Provides on-the-job training to team members to improve current performance and enhance future development. 
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications: 

  • Experience in one or more of the following functions: workforce scheduling, planning, recruiting, and shipboard crew administration.
  • Knowledge and experience in business analytics.
  • Knowledge of automated human resources systems is preferred.
  • Good communication skills, reads, writes and speaks English and has interpretative skills for oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to travel internationally and domestically. 
  • Knowledge of automated human resources and workforce planning systems.
  • Statistics, Economics, or Business education from a credited college, university, or the international equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous professional experience in one or more of the following functions: workforce planning, analytics, par level planning, scheduling, and logistics services. 
  • Leads the team’s day-to-day activities in recruiting, scheduling, and logistics functions.
  • Applies knowledge and gains experience in supervisory skills.
  • Knowledgeable of world geography and time differences.
  • Knowledgeable of immigration and visa requirements related to seafarers in various geographical areas.
  • Applies knowledge of flag and port state regulations related to shipboard positions.
  • Understands the general concept of the shipboard organization.
  • Ability to apply policies and practices involved in the Human Resources function.
  • Ability to develop, manage and lead a team positively and productively.
  • Able to administer performance management process using coaching and counseling to improve performance.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions in a multinational environment consisting of department heads, managers, co-workers, and shipboard employees.
  • Ability to recognize process improvements and make recommendations for change.
  • Work productively and lead a team under tight time constraints and stressful situations.
  • Able to read, speak and write English to understand and interpret written procedures, give and receive instructions in written and verbal form, and effectively present information and respond to questions from management, co-workers, and shipboard employees.
  • Know and understand the needs, wants, job skills, and dynamics of the positions/jobs the team works on by meeting with the recruiter regularly.
  • Planning & prioritization:
  • Determine the necessary sequence of activities and the efficient level of resources required to achieve long-term goals.
  • Optimization:
  • Proven track record for applying optimization techniques in domains such as inventory optimization, crew planning, manufacturing, and Problem-solving.
  • Evaluate a problematic situation and create a resolution based on planning and reasoning. Use logic, judgment, and data to drive decisions.
  • Working knowledge of DMAIC principle - perform root cause analysis, implement controls, and execute continuous improvement ideas
  • Working knowledge of statistical tools to ensure the proper success measures are in place to maintain the integrity of long-term planning/forecasting
  • Create and maintain control charts to identify gaps, check if the proper process controls are placed, and measure plan adjustments
  • Visualizes, articulates, and solves both complex and uncomplicated problems and concepts and make decisions that make sense based on all available information.
  • Quickly learn and apply knowledge, skills, and judgment by assessing and translating information technology into responsive and effective planning solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, can translate data to suggest practical solutions or process improvement
  • Ability to communicate tactfully, verbally and in writing, to gather and relay information in a multinational environment consisting of department heads, managers, coworkers, and shipboard employees. 
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures.  This includes giving and receiving instructions in written and verbal forms and effectively presenting information, and responding to questions from management, co-workers, and shipboard employees.
  • Working knowledge of general shipboard functions on a cruise ship and the concept of the shipboard organization.  Working knowledge of applicable immigration and visa requirements for seafarers in various geographical areas.
  • Working knowledge of applicable flag state and port state regulations related to seafarers’ training, licenses, and certifications as needed
