Royal Caribbean Group’s Legal Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Associate Counsel, Operations, based in Miami, reporting to the Director, Sr Associate Counsel.
This role will work on-site in our headquarters in Miami, Florida.
Position Summary
The position operates as designated legal counsel to a number of internal Royal Caribbean departments, including Hotel Operations (Concessionaires, Casino, Tour Operations, F&B), Travel Services (Hotels, Air), Supply Chain & Procurement, Medical Operations, Human Resources, Global Safety and Security, and Environmental Stewardship for all three Royal Caribbean Group brands – Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Silversea.
This attorney reviews, negotiates, and prepares a wide variety of contracts in the areas above representing a mix of high-volume, straightforward vendor agreements and sophisticated, comprehensive long-term contracts. This attorney also handles certain regulatory issues, including for casino, liquor licensing and travel insurance. Finally, this position provides legal support to the General Counsel and other attorneys in the Legal Department as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drafts, negotiates, and reviews transactional agreements between RCG (and each of its brands, as applicable) which vary in type based on department and range from short-form straightforward vendor agreements (e.g. room block agreements with major hotel chains, air travel agreements with major airlines, master supplier agreements, and equipment leases with casino suppliers), to comprehensive and sophisticated long-term contracts (e.g. concessionaire agreements with large-scale duty-free retail operators, multi-year fuel procurement agreements, partnership agreements with land-based casinos, and development/operation agreements for onboard dining).
- Manages regulatory issues and licensing for certain departments, including casino, F&B, retail and travel insurance, including determining casino operating hours internationally and obtaining state liquor licenses.
- Liaises regularly with other legal and non-legal departments, including data privacy, compliance, IT, finance and accounting, risk management and marketing, on contracts and regulatory issues requiring cross-coordination (e.g. insurance, GDPR, internal corporate approvals).
- Drafts, negotiates and reviews related documents to the above, including amendments and extensions, letters of intent, memorandum of understanding, and term sheets.
- Provides strategic legal advice to a number of internal departments and assists with administration of contracts in accordance with Company policies and legal requirements.
- Develops, creates, improves and drafts standard form contracts for high volume agreements, and bespoke agreements related to the Company’s strategic initiatives.
- Responsible for overseeing a contract manager based in Manila, who supports the Operations team.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school, with strong academic credentials.
- License to practice law required; Florida Bar preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of contract-related or transactional experience; medium/large law firm and/or in-house experience is preferred.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills, excellent judgment, and the ability to make decisions and assess acceptable levels of business risk.
- Excellent drafting ability; must draft contracts, reports, and business correspondence.
- Must be able to work independently and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Must work with a sense of professional pride, possess a strong work ethic, be proactive, enthusiastic, and flexible, and have business and personal integrity.
- Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, including the ability to simplify technical and legal jargon; effective public speaking ability.
- Must be highly organized, detailed oriented, responsive, and dependable.
- Ability to handle a high volume of urgent and important matters while maintaining professional but cordial relations with internal clients.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online research tools.
