Spec,Entrtment Studios Rigging

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for sets ups, operates, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs all aspects of the company-leased Foy studio rigging systems, including motor lines, hoists, tracks, drums, lifts and all other aerial apparatus under the direction of Foy (Contractor).  Supports and assists the technical operations of Royal Caribbean Productions at Entertainment studios by setting up, operating and striking all associated elements in order to facilitate safe and efficient rehearsal sessions. Collaborating and Supporting Fleet Entertainment production teams and Fleetwide Aerial Operations.

 

Assists with Scenic repairs in the studios and helps to create new elements needed where approval has been given. May be asked to assist Scenic& Props Specialist with shipboard projects, maintenance and repair.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all rigging-related work is being done safely and in accordance with Foy’s and Royal Caribbean International’s safety standards
  • Working with Aerial Trainers and performers, this role supports the safe and successful conditioning, training, and rehearsal process as scheduled.
  • Conducts ongoing maintenance of all related systems. Troubleshoots and repairs systems.
  • Conducts daily, weekly and monthly inspections of all rigging systems with special attention paid to safety systems and features, including documentation.
  • Safely operates manual and automated performer flying systems and various aerial apparatus.
  • Maintains the artistic standards and intentions of the Producer, Director and Technical Designer for the production shows. 
  • Coordinates under the direction of Foy (Contractor) inventory of all aerial apparatus.
  • Coordinates under the direction of Foy (Contractor) to maintain adequate inventory of equipment for repairs and/or replacement.
  • Participates in various show rehearsal set-ups including audio, lighting, staging and scenery. This may also include groups, events and functions held onsite at the Entertainment studios where possible.
  • Assists entertainment sound and lighting technical teams with repair and maintenance tasks at times, most especially when it requires hoisting or lowering equipment, or working aloft.
  • Works under the direction of Foy (Contractor) to make certain that all equipment in every Royal Studio is installed, operated and maintained safely.
  • Should strive to ensure that the quality of all entertainment technical equipment is kept up to the original design standards or better.
  • Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required.
  • May be asked to coordinate with Specialist, Fleetwide Aerial Support and Specialist, Studio Prod Mgt on scheduling needs for the spaces.
  • Coordinates with Aerial Trainers on schedule and equipment.
  • Helps to assemble/disassemble large set pieces in the studios and transport to different studios
  • Any other duties as requested by supervisors and management

 

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Minimum three years Professional Theater set-up experiences and aerial knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of theatrical rigging, maintenance and inspections including hemp or counterweight rigging, automated systems, winch/motorized rigging, ground rigging, high steel, and rock climbing are preferred. Ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain automated and manual rigging systems.
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with co-workers.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees and cast members. 
  • Live theatrical entertainment production background required.
  • Successful completion of Foy operator basics training certificate required (Sponsored by Royal Caribbean Production).
  • Completion of an ETCP recognized rigging training program preferred.
  • ETCP Rigging Certification preferred.
  • Successful completion of Fall Protection and Aeria Lift Certifications.
  • Office Computer skills –strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word), 365 and Sharepoint required
