Senior Specialist, ESG Comms

Position Summary:

The ESG (environmental, social, governance) Communications Specialist is a skilled writer and communicator, who works on day-to-day sustainability/ESG storytelling and communications for a wide range of internal and external audiences. The ESG Communications Specialist will be responsible for contributing to the development and execution of a cohesive enterprise sustainability/ESG communications strategy. As part of the Corporate Communications team, this professional will develop news releases, talking points, presentations and other materials to enhance our ESG story and communicate to national, financial and trade media, shareholders and investors, customers, employees and other key stakeholders on all matters concerning ESG. In addition, this team member will be responsible for developing communication strategies and materials in support of, but not limited to, ESG matters, corporate reports, corporate web content and major corporate initiatives. The team member should have a foundational understanding of ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD). The position requires an individual passionate about enterprise sustainability and who can operate with a sense of urgency and a consistent awareness of deadlines and results.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be part of the team that contributes and implements a comprehensive ESG communications plan and strategy that inform and engage external stakeholders and motivate employees to serve as informed ambassadors of RCG's ESG efforts.
  • Design and implement stakeholder- and employee-facing ESG messaging for RCG's senior leaders, brand leaders, initiatives and events, etc.
  • Identify and implement the most appropriate mix of traditional and social media to influence positive perception among stakeholders and employees on our ESG performance, and drive communication across the organization and stakeholder landscape.
  • Work closely with Corporate Affairs colleagues to ensure ESG content and messaging are built into functional strategies and plans that support our right to operate.
  • Measure the effectiveness of internal and external ESG communications and channels on an ongoing basis and make recommendations to review and amend as appropriate.
  • Stay on top of current and emerging industry trends and make recommendations for changes to communications strategy or messaging pertaining to ESG.
  • Coordinate communications efforts across multiple channels including social media, website, etc. internally and externally.
  • Assist SMEs and others within the company to prepare for ESG related speaking opportunities or interviews.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of stories, anecdotes and other information throughout the year for inclusion in internal and external channels such as a year-end ESG report.
  • Work with the team to develop compelling written and visual summaries of ESG initiatives for both internal and external audiences, including infographics, PPTs and reports.
  • Assist in aligning all communications, including brand communications, with overarching enterprise ESG purpose.
  • In collaboration with ESG, investor relations, marketing and other teams, develop, review and edit collateral materials including brochures, presentations, case studies and other content for communication of ESG efforts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organize and maintain a report and presentation library, including images, and media files.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the Chief Communications Officer.


Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of communications experience in corporate, government and/or brand communications, public relations agency or media outlet.
  • Knowledge and adherence to AP Style.
  • Exhibit a deep interest and experience in environmental, social, governance, sustainability and corporate responsibility.
  • Experience in ESG communications or ESG reporting is preferred.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills for different formats including announcements, statements, press releases, etc.
  • Experience developing and delivering qualitative and quantitative sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, governance) information and communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple and constantly changing priorities, and work under pressure.
  • Proactive and takes initiative. Functions effectively, both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to express complex ideas simply and demonstrated ability to make connections between seemingly unrelated concepts.
  • Proven ability to read, analyze, interpret and translate large sets of data into simple insights or reports.
  • Excellent project management skills and planning and reporting experience, with a proven track record for delivering successful qualitative and quantitative reporting.
  • Must effectively influence without formal authority by partnering across the enterprise to accomplish goals through others without direct authority.
  • Effective presentation skills with fluency in presentation software.
  • Comfortable with competing priorities and managing multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
  • Manages projects independently and leads day-to-day client communication and coordination.
  • Actively follows the landscape for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) communications, including ESG standards, and can effectively advise and consult with clients.
