The Royal Caribbean Group’s Safety, Security and Environment Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Senior Manager, Occupational Safety reporting to the AVP, Maritime Security.
The position is onsite and based in Miami, Florida.
Position Summary:
The Senior Manager, Occupational and Guest Safety Programs is responsible for leading, developing, and executing Royal Caribbean Group’s safety strategy across all brands. This role oversees occupational and guest safety initiatives within the Safety, Security, and Environment (SSE) division, including project management, risk management, business analytics, continuous improvement, and digital transformation.
The Sr. Manager serves as a strategic partner to brand leadership and Risk Management, focused on minimizing injury risk and fostering a culture of safety through program development, incident response, data analytics, and operational collaboration. The role acts as a corporate representative to external stakeholders such as vendors, classification societies, flag states, and industry associations, while advising internal stakeholders across Newbuild, operations, and shipboard safety teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute long and short-term strategies to drive safety performance and support corporate sustainability and risk-reduction goals.
- Lead the Public Safety Officer (PSO) program, providing guidance, oversight, and performance management to ensure shipboard KPIs are achieved and maintained.
- Communicate clearly and confidently across all levels of the organization, including executive and C-suite audiences.
- Act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to senior leadership, brand presidents, and operational teams.
- Monitor crew and guest safety programs to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and progress toward zero-incident goals.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EU-OSHA, IMO, flag state) and drive policy or procedural changes as needed.
- Ensure safety practices are embedded into shipboard operations and newbuild processes.
- Liaise with external authorities, including classification societies, port state control, and flag state representatives, as needed.
- Establish and track KPIs, using both leading and lagging indicators to identify trends, support decision-making, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
- Oversee all third-party partnerships related to occupational safety, ensuring vendor compliance, alignment with company safety goals, and delivery of value-added services.
- Lead vendor evaluations, contract performance reviews, and strategic alignment on safety initiatives.
- Partner with internal departments, including Risk Management, Global Security, Safety/Environmental/Health, and brand operations, to align and execute cross-functional safety strategies.
- Serve as a contributing member of the Shoreside Safety Steering Committee, offering technical insight and leadership on enterprise-wide safety goals.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing safety team, fostering professional development and driving innovation in maritime safety practices.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in maritime, industrial, or public safety, including strategic program development.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. and international safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EU-OSHA, IMO).
- Cruise industry or maritime sector experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting investigations, analyzing trends, and implementing corrective action.
- Proven ability to establish KPIs, leverage data for insights, and manage performance across large teams or functions.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all organizational levels, including C-suite.
- Strong technical writing skills for development of SOPs, safety protocols, and training materials.
- Willingness to travel to ships and shipyards as needed for audits, training, and safety program support.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Will exhibit mature and responsible decision-making, problem solving and proven judgment skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
- Self-driven to continually improve and actively work to bridge gaps in their knowledge in order to add more value to a particular project or setting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manual with the appropriate attention to details.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Financial Responsibilities:

- Manage consultant and employee expenses in compliance with company expense policies.
- Work with internal departments to reduce injury related claims through improved shipboard crew training, procedures, and prevention tactics
