Senior Manager, Dry Dock

Position Summary:

Sr. Manager Dry Dock plays pivotal role in ensuring successful execution of dry-docking projects across our fleet. Main responsibilities include developing comprehensive dry-docking specifications for all dry-docking activities, collaborating with internal stakeholders such as Ship Managers and Fleet Directors, and external contractors to ensure adherence to quality, safety, and budgetary requirements. Combination of technical expertise, project managements skills, and deep understanding of cruise ship operations is essential for this role. Sr. Manager DD also identifies gaps in dry docking practices and initiates improvements to existing standards to drive safety and efficiency. Attend dry/wet docks as required to improve such standards and create best practices.

Additionally, this role includes overseeing Royal Caribbean traveling teams (aka Riding Crew).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 
  • Develop and write dry-docking specifications. Create detailed dry-docking specifications to ensure clarity and alignment with project objectives.

  • Identify and incorporate best practices from previous dry-docking projects into specifications, enhancing efficiency and quality.

  • Attend sea trials as required, including those for the ships fresh out from dry docks and new builds, to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.

  • Provide technical expertise for dry-dockings and other technical initiatives, actively participating meetings and workshops as necessary.

  • Provide guidance and expertise for Marine Operations teams during dry-docking executions, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to standards.

  • Ensure, in cooperation with associated Managers, that technically related incidents and damages are properly investigated and reported (if applicable).

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities or problems relating to product, process, and quality systems as well as provide solutions through designated channels and verify implementation of such solutions.

  • Oversee Royal Caribbean travelling teams (aga Riding Crew).

  • Identify and address potential quality gaps in Riding Crew Operations, implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Evaluate the need for additional Riding Crew to support dry-docking and other technical projects.

Qualifications:

Specific Knowledge:  Chief Engineer’s license with 10+ year’ experience onboard the cruise ships. 10+ years’ experience dry-docking. Ability to manage the financial aspects of the assigned function, including the successful identification of expense reduction through cost efficiencies.  Person must excel in ability to manage a staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing employees as they work. Excellent organizational and communication skills required.

 

 

Knowledge and Skills:

Working knowledge of personal computers, internet access and the ability to navigate within a variety of Microsoft software packages including and not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related printers and equipment. Person must have excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management. The ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple projects and priorities is needed.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • The ability to read and comprehend instructions in English required. Understand correspondence and memos to communicate effectively with various departments within the organization, both shipboard and shore side.  Excellent interpersonal skills needed.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, discounts, interest and commissions and to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance, as well as foreign exchange rates.

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems that arise with standardized solutions. Consult superiors when needed and SQM.​​​​​​​
