Senior Manager, Art Creative Studio

Position Summary:

Based in Miami, FL and reporting to the Creative Director, Royal Caribbean Creative Studio, the Senior Manager, Art Creative Studio will be responsible for providing creative project leadership for the design and execution of new early-stage products, services, and experiences for Royal Caribbean Group brands.

 

Collaborating with the Creative Director, the Art Director will play a key role in exploring and defining the details of our big ideas and driving the development of those ideas within the Creative Studio. The Art Director will guide and support internal and external resources in the conceptualization, design, and prototyping of products, services, and experiences that span interactive, retail, food & beverage, attractions, entertainment, and much more.

 

The Art Director will have deep expertise with concept design, sprint methodology, early-stage product and experience development, or related multi-disciplinary digital and physical design, and is tasked with bringing the vision of a concept to life visually and through multimodal storytelling. The ideal Art Director will bring a balance of creative and management capability to the position, providing both compelling artistic input and necessary project management. We are looking for an experienced manager who can inspire and lead others in the execution of our creative efforts.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead creative projects by providing art direction and design expertise for Creative Studio projects:
  • Ideate and explore directions to fulfill concept brief and creative vision through visuals and rough mockups
  • Envision and communicate a rich guest/crew experience from the user viewpoint
  • Partner with team to develop test experiences through whatever combination of physical and digital technologies produces the most compelling end result
  • Direct team resources in producing final design assets; provide hands-on assistance and collaboration where needed
  • Provide feedback to internal team resources and vendors for production and prototype fabrication
  • Manage both internal team and vendor work delivery and project completion
  • Collaborate with Research and Technology functions for necessary integration and validation
  • As needed, partner with internal teams to shepherd innovation projects into production and handoff for operation
  • Explore and investigate emerging technologies and companies to leverage and/or partner with on innovation projects; share findings with team
  • Provide practice leadership by generating new strategic ideas for the Creative Studio, be it process, practice, or project
  • As needed, lead internal brainstorms with Creative Studio, RCG resources, and vendors to explore and define new opportunities
  • Develop and nurture working relationships with internal teams
  • Develop working relationships with external vendors, partners, freelancers, industry organizations, and educational institutions
  • Manage multiple project work streams concurrently
  • Direct and supervise activities of creative team resources
  • Provide support and direction to junior team members for individual growth
  • Provide oversight on project budgets

 

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design, preferably Industrial Design or similar
  • 5+ years’ creative project experience, minimum 4 years in management/leadership, preferably as art director
  • Exceptional Creativity + Design: Excellent artistic vision and design sense; deep expertise with design relevant tools, both analog and digital: sketching, painting/rendering, 3D modeling, physical mockup construction
  • Leadership: Proven leadership of total project efforts; experienced with coaching and developing junior team members
  • Management: Effective and efficient manager of resources: people, time, budget, materials; excellent time management and organizational skills, enabling management of multiple work streams, effective delegation, and delivery against deadlines
  • Excellent verbal communication skills: explanation, presentation, persuasion
  • Strong collaboration skills: communicating, teaming, delivering shared work, learner mindset
  • People-orientation and a natural team worker, comfortable working in a fluid, start-up-like environment where proactivity and self-direction are essential
  • Resilient to ambiguity, change, and chaos: the Creative Studio is responsible for prototyping the future, so team members need to flex to the needs of any given project. Sometimes we will start with clear direction and objectives; sometimes we will start with an empty whiteboard.
  • Biased to action, attentive to detail, consummate craftsmanship
