Royal Caribbean Group’s Risk Management has an exciting career opportunity for a Legal Secretary reporting to the Principal Litigation Attorney

 

This position will work on-site in Miami, Florida

 

Position Summary: 

The Legal Secretary is responsible for the scheduling and calendaring of all events for the attorney assigned, including but not limited to, discovery deadlines, court hearing dates, mediations and depositions. Additionally, the Legal Secretary must be able to assist in the filing of legal documents, preparation of expense reports for payment and prepare discovery documents and correspondence.   

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the scheduling and calendaring of all court dates, meetings and appointments for the assigned attorney.   
  • Participates in or coordinates efforts to gather specific detailed information required in litigation (for affidavits, subpoenas, request for information) and other legal investigations, utilizing internal and external computer databases and technologies (such as JD Edwards, Colonial, Adobe, and Pacer) 
  • Frequent interaction with people at all levels of the business units 
  • Prepares first draft of some responses to subpoenas, short memoranda, and paper correspondence 
  • Schedules meetings, appointments, and deposition dates for attorney as needed 
  • Coordinates and administers collection files 
  • Maintains litigation tracking databases 
  • Handles paper correspondence; maintains office files, answers telephone calls; makes copies of outgoing documents 
  • Provides administrative assistance to other members of the Legal Department as needed 
  • Self-starter needed with proven capacity to quickly and proficiently adapt to new tasks and responsibilities 

 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required 
  • College/Associate degree or paralegal training a plus 
  • At least one year of experience as a litigation secretary or four years secretarial experience required 

 

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Must be flexible; able to set priorities, handle multiple projects, manage deadlines and work effectively with people.
  • Strong oral, written (including proof-reading) and interpersonal skills required for communication with multiple constituencies 
  • Strong working knowledge of Word and Excel, and the ability to learn Power Point, Adobe, Pacer, and other computer programs required.
