Project Manager, Refurbishments

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Refurbishment Project Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing all refurbishment projects onboard their assigned vessels. This includes refurbishment projects executed in operation and during docking periods which are either expensed or capitalized.  Also responsible for ensuring that all projects are in compliance with the requirements of regulatory agencies such as DNV, IMO, SOLAS, USPH, US Coast Guard, ISO, ADA and others as applicable.

 

The Refurbishment Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that all projects meet the technical requirements of the ships technical systems such as HVAC, electrical, mechanical, etc in coordination with the Marine Ship Managers and Officers onboard the vessels. The Refurbishment Project Manager must possess strong project management, communication, financial and technical skills to be able to support the projects assigned from inception to final acceptance. The Refurbishment Project Manager is to provide support to the Maintenance Management team for ongoing refurbishment on their assigned vessels, this requires close and constant interaction with the Hotel and Marine Departments both shipboard and shore side.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to plan and deliver all Refurbishment projects on time, on budget and on quality related to assigned vessels.
  • Performs a thorough ship condition review twice a year per assigned ship.
  • Ensures that the monthly project reconciliation files are updated on a timely basis.
  • Manages the project planning and development with Hotel Operations, Newbuilding Design, Marine Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics and onboard Executive and Maintenance Committees as dictated by Refurbishment project requirements.
  • Responsible to ensure that projects meet all the technical requirements related to ships systems such as HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, etc and to coordinate approval of such with the Ship Managers with shipboard officers, Executive Committees. 
  • Manages refurbishment projects on assigned vessels including but not limited to onboard contractor performance supervision, project quality control, onboard coordination of purchasing, logistics, travel, shipboard support, and use of a riding crew.
  • Oversees the final project acceptance and securing necessary onboard project acceptance on assigned vessels.
  • Responsible for follow-up and completion of all project punch list items.  Coordinates with Purchasing related to Refurbishment project guarantee items and approves final resolution of guaranteed claims.
  • Support the day-to-day Refurbishment efforts onboard in liaison with the shipboard Maintenance Management.
  • Oversees the maintenance and the general appearance of the guest and crew areas as per the Company set standards
  • Determines ongoing project priorities, timetables, reporting of project status, etc and maintenance of project matrix including cost/benefit analyses.
  • Responsible for routine visits to their assigned vessels to ensure that the maintenance is continuously performed to corporate set standards.
  • Supports department procedures to ensure effective coordination between departments and the vessels.
  • Participates in the development of specifications, policies and procedures designed to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Refurbishment Department.
  • Provides feedback to Newbuilding Design on materials performance and failures as part of continuous improvement process and development of company standards for outfitting and design.
  • Optimizes the use of computer technology and templates to communicate relevant and important information related to Refurbishment projects and best practices.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 7 to 10 years’ experience in project management required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Hospitality/Cruise Industry/ Shipyard or Naval background preferred
  • Must possess working knowledge of MS project, AutoCAD and other project management systems. 
  • Must possess working knowledge of ships systems such as HVAC, electrical, mechanical, etc.
  • Must possess working knowledge of DNV, SOLAS, IMO, USPH, etc to ensure that projects are in compliance with the requirements of the regulatory agencies in coordination with the Ship Manager and the Marine Operations Technical Support group.
  • Travel required up to 50%.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from project team or managers.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard, dry dock, newbuilding or offsite locations.  Personal protective equipment will be provided as needed in these situations.
