Position Summary:
This position is responsible for managing strategic stability initiatives and processes, the assessment of Fleet Modernization and technical project feasibility and development of weight management plans along with project and technical managers, and the completion and approval of inclining tests, surveys and documentation associated with ongoing projects in collaboration with consultants and classification societies. The position also includes maintaining a forward-looking assessment of all upcoming Newbuild, Fleet Modernization and technical projects including collaboration with operations teams on the existing state of vessels in the fleet and operational impacts of projects, Newbuild lifecycle planning and executive-level reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent the New building department as the resident authority on ship stability and damage control issues as they relate to the company’s portfolio of vessels and new projects.
- Manages, in collaboration with operations teams, a stability database with accurate weight and stability status for every vessel in the fleet including lifecycle tracking and projection based on future project plans and current operational windows.
- Assesses Fleet Modernization and technical project feasibility with the Brand development teams including evaluation of required and operational loading conditions, operational flexibility, energy efficiency and vulnerability assessments.
- Develops construction and repair weight management plans and monitor these plans as projects develop working with projects manager.
- Facilitates and attends all project-related inclining tests and lightship surveys as well as managing the approval of all stability documentation in collaboration with operations, consultants, and classification societies.
- Advises Newbuild development teams on stability targets, complete lifecycle assessments and participate in weight and stability reviews for all Newbuild projects.
- Work on special projects related to ship stability, dynamic stability, regulatory changes, new technology and new damage control systems and processes.
- Completes regular executive-level reporting on all weight and stability aspects of current and upcoming projects including the organization of chief engineer reviews and executive steering committee meetings.
- Advises and assist on other Naval Architecture topics as needed.
- Develop and maintain company standards in regard to stability requirements, weight reduction initiatives and operational GM margins.
- This position will be responsible for around $500K yearly associated with capital projects.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience is required with primary responsibilities in weights and stability discipline including both prescriptive and probabilistic damage stability philosophy, regulations, and calculations.
- Minimum degree in Naval Architecture.
- Experience conducting inclining experiments.
- Advanced user of NAPA software or similar system.
- Experience working with internal and external customers and vendor partners.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate technical material to executive leadership and non-technical audience.
- Proficient knowledge of applicable stability rules and regulations.
- Project management experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Familiar with SOLAS stability requirements. Should be able to use NAPA software to assess stability calculations.
- Advanced knowledge of personal computers within a Windows environment including e-mail, Microsoft Office 365 (word, excel, Power BI, Sharepoint, etc.) and related printers and equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of employees and management in a multi-cultural environment, with business acumen and support for business decision make.
- Superior writing and analytical skills; able to provide quality work with minimum direction.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
