Marine Operations Manager

Position Summary:

The Manager of Nautical Operations is responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of Officer Career Progression, Scheduling and assignments, trainings and records, assessments, Standard operating procedures, certificates and licenses, and navigational support within the Marine Operations department of the Nautical Services Division. This role is based in our Miami office. This position reports to the Sr. Manager Nautical Operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing career progression programs for deck officers ensuring optimal utilization of resources and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Manage deck officers training records, requirements, certificates and licenses in close cooperation with the Marine Administrative team.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Workforce Planning Team on assignments and scheduling of deck officers and deck Cadets.
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team on hiring and interviewing deck officer and cadet candidates.
  • Follow and verify Standard Operating procedures are effectively in place for established processes and update as needed.
  • Oversee and support fleet Marine injury prevention and workplace safety in cooperation with the Loss Prevention team.
  • Support fleet wide navigational safety support, including equipment and software. Monitor Bridge equipment reports and provide guidance/support as needed.
  • Work closely with the Maritime Safety Department supporting investigations of navigation related incidents/accidents and safety bulletins.
  • Represent the Nautical Services team in workgroups and meetings as needed.
  • Remain current with current and expected SOLAS, ILO and STCW regulations and initiate required actions for compliance as well as keeping open and continuous communication with Flag State, Class Authorities, and Port State in all navigation and related safety matters.
  • Expected to support the role of Sr. Manager Nautical Operations in his/her absence.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Position requires a nautical education with minimum 5 years of service at sea as Deck Officer or equivalent Nautical shore side position, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • A college degree or diploma in a nautical related field is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and excellent knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a cohesive team
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Fleet and spend required time on a variety of vessels.
  • Possess excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to multitask and manage in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially, including the ability to interact with crewmembers and management, respond to questions and speak in front of groups of all sizes.
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management; prior experience in managerial coaching and team building in a similar environment would be helpful.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Focus on attention to details and accuracy in recordkeeping.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
  • Internal Candidate Requirements: 3+ years of employment at sea within our fleet.
