The Royal Caribbean Group, Private Destinations team has an exciting career opportunity for a full Manager, Technical Private Destinations, reporting to the Director, Technical Private Destinations.
Position Overview
The Manager, Technical Private Destinations, is responsible for overseeing the construction and technical readiness of destination facilities, systems, and infrastructure. This role ensures all capital projects are executed to the standards required for safe, reliable, and efficient long‑term operation and maintenance. In parallel with construction oversight, the Project Manager supports daily technical operations, ensuring all systems function seamlessly to uphold safety, compliance, operational continuity, and a high-quality guest experience. A critical aspect of this role is close collaboration with the Private Destinations Technical Director, Director of Island Projects & Innovation, and Technical Startup Team. Together, they align construction delivery with operational requirements, integrate project plans with long‑term technical strategies, and ensure the destination is built and maintained to world‑class standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works jointly with the Private Destinations Technical Director and Director of Island Projects & Innovation to define project priorities, align scopes, integrate innovation, and ensure construction activities support the destination’s long-term vision.
- Partners with the Private Destinations Technical Director to ensure all built systems, utilities, and facilities support safe, efficient, and reliable long-term operations.
- Facilitates continuous communication between construction, technical/maintenance operations, and engineering teams to maintain alignment across project milestones, design decisions, and operational requirements.
- Acts as the technical conduit between construction teams and operating departments, ensuring that what is built is maintainable, serviceable, and aligned with asset lifecycle strategy.
- Supports the Director of Island Projects & Innovation and the Private Destinations Technical Director in risk reviews, troubleshooting, vendor management, commissioning readiness, and operational transition planning.
- Monitors all phases of capital construction projects from design development and procurement through execution, commissioning, handover, and warranty.
- Ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and compliant with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company specifications.
- Reviews and validates civil, architectural, structural, MEP, life-safety, marine, and utilities design documents to ensure technical accuracy and operational feasibility.
- Conducts routine site inspections to monitor progress, verify quality, and proactively resolve construction issues.
- Coordinates with both Directors and cross-functional international teams to ensure project decisions reflect operational needs and future maintenance requirements.
- Supports on-site technical teams with daily operations, troubleshooting, fault diagnostics, and system reliability improvements.
- Coordinates technical resources to resolve issues quickly and safely while minimizing impact to guests and operations.
- Ensures the safe and reliable operation of:
- Buildings and structural assets
- Electrical and mechanical systems
- HVAC and utilities
- Life-safety and emergency systems
- Marine structures and waterfront infrastructure
- Guest amenities, attractions, and experience-critical systems
- Collaborates closely with the Private Destinations Technical Director to ensure operational readiness aligns with construction progress and technical standards.
- Oversees maintenance contractors and service agreements to ensure high-quality performance, proper documentation, and adherence to regulatory and internal standards.
- Validates preventive maintenance programs, asset care strategies, and spare-parts plans to ensure reliability and minimize downtime.
- Supports lifecycle planning, capital forecasting, and the long-term asset management strategy in coordination with the Private Destinations Technical Director.
- Provides technical evaluations of systems and infrastructure, recommending upgrades or capital investments based on condition assessments and operational needs.
- Ensures all construction and maintenance activities comply with company policy, local regulations, building codes, environmental requirements, and safety standards.
- Maintains accurate and complete technical documentation, inspection records, operating manuals, and commissioning packages. Drives a safety-first culture across both construction and operational teams.

Qualifications, Education and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience managing construction projects, preferably in remote or international locations.
- Strong ability to read, review, and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineering documents.
- In-depth understanding of construction methods, building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards

- Proven ability to manage contractors and construction crews in a field-based environment.

- Ability to work onsite full-time in Mahahual, Mexico.
- Willingness to travel within Mexico and internationally as required.
- Strong background in construction management, engineering, technical operations, or facility management within resorts, destinations, marine environments, or large-scale infrastructure.
- Ability to read and validate civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and marine engineering drawings.
- Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and vendors across complex, fast-paced projects.
- Strong problem-solving, technical troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership ability, with a talent for cross-functional collaboration across local and international teams.
- Proficiency in project management and construction software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam).
- Fluency in Spanish (required) – verbal and written.
- Ability to communicate in English with internal teams, international contractors, and leadership.
- Able to interpret written procedures, plans, and safety requirements in both languages.
Financial / Quantitative Responsibilities
- Develop, monitor, and manage project budgets.
- Provide regular cost reporting and forecasting.
- Ensure financial controls are maintained for labor, materials, and contractor expenses.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, climb, and navigate construction sites, including uneven or sandy terrain.
- Ability to work outdoors in high heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to participate in emergency drills and procedures.
