The Royal Caribbean Group’s Global Supply Chain Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Manager, Procurement Global Procurement Fuel & Lube reporting to the Senior Manager, Procurement.

 

This role will work in-person in Downtown Miami, Florida.

 

Position Summary:

 

This is a cruise industry procurement leader for marine fuel products, lubricant oils and chemicals. The role will provide strategic guidance and day-to-day management to the AVP Fuel, Director Fuel, Sr. Procurement Mgr. and other buyers to establish compliant, cost-effective and uninterrupted processes to secure fuel, lube oils and caustic soda for RCG’s global fleet. Proactively engages suppliers, ports, government authorities to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, delivery schedule, maritime safety/security requirements. This position monitor’s global markets, maintains short term and long-range plans, provides frequent updates to the vessels, Global Marine Operations, Newbuild, Deployment and Corporate Finance Leaders on day-to-day fuel ops, opportunities, value creation and supplier performance. Additionally, the Procurement Manager should possess strong financial and analytical expertise to establish themselves as a subject-matter expert (SME) in the Fuel and Supply Chain Management organization. This includes expertise in gathering business requirements, collecting, storing relevant data and providing the data-driven solution in an easy-to-understand format to our stakeholders.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Direct the fuel sourcing strategy for >25% of global bunker ports & regions including, U.S Gulf 100%, U.S. West Coast 50%, Caribbean 30% with oversight of over $500M in direct fuel spend contracts.
  • Responsible for executing the Lube oil delivery operations for RCI, CEL, SCC and TUI which results in over 20 million liters of annual consumption, $20 million in direct fuel expense.
  • Manage the Lube Oil sourcing strategy for 100% of global ports and regions including integration of day-to-day operations from Silversea Fleet.
  • Strategic sourcing and order execution of low carbon fuels including Biofuels, LNG, Methanol in the existing owned markets to meet RCG’s sustainability targets and compliance requirements.
  • Formulate highly sophisticated procurement and negotiation strategy based on multiple and very volatile variables that drive petroleum and lube oil markets. Negotiates contractual premiums, transportation and delivery schedule based on advanced economic order quantity concepts as well as compatibility of specific bunker products.
  • Leads continuous oversight of the order process, communications with suppliers and the vessels to ensure 99.9% delivery and specification accuracy given the extraordinary importance of timely fuel supply for our ability to deliver the cruise to the guests.
  • Planning & coordinating the yearly and long term, Fuel and Lube oil procurement program with all external/internal stakeholders, including cost avoidance saving targets aimed to generate multi-million-dollar annual savings >$50 million.
  • Drive the effort to design and establish an advanced operational bunker & analytics tool, to further improve day to day operations and efficiency of ship fuel ordering schedule. Responsible for managing >$1 Billion in external vendor contracts and service level agreements.
  • Manages and issues purchase orders and change notices; directly negotiates or supervises the negotiation of complex requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Continuously develop supply points to mitigate operational disruptions caused by saturated fueling markets.
  • Prepares and reviews contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications.
  • Leads supplier performance to ensure consistent service, high quality and low costs of goods/services.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining highly complex lube oil and chemicals financial forecast modelling.
  • Reviews Purchase Order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
  • Responsible for sourcing and negotiating fuel contracts with various suppliers upwards of $200M spend.
  • Assists with the work of the procurement team, assigning duties and providing guidance or support to ensure optimal team performance and project execution.
  • Perform complex price analysis of multiple parameters, such as regional fuel price differentials, freight, fuel energy content, Sulphur.
  • Responsible for content and implementation of Environmentally Compliant Fuel Sourcing Operating Procedures for entire fleet.
  • Designs, implements, manages and monitors procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements.
  • Responsible for content and implementation of Fuel Purchasing Standard Operating Procedures for entire fleet.
  • Performs adjustments to fuel orders and vessels consumption based on operating conditions and actual fuel specifications.
  • Performs frequent sourcing and operations reviews on assigned vessels to ensure correct sourcing decision has been made based on chemical fuel content and consumption.
  • Leads fuel operational reviews in cooperation with Energy management, Fleet operations, and Environmental Stewardship.
  • Works closely with Marine Operations to meet monthly and quarterly financial and environmental objectives.
  • Manages departmental KPIs such as arbitrage savings, on-time delivery, industry benchmarking.

Financial Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversees the operations of a billion dollar + commodity spend. Responsible for providing business users with analytical insight in order to properly manage and forecast the annual fuel expense.
  • Provide Bunker expense reporting and any variance analysis explanation to Accounting, GMO, Finance & Corporate Planning.
  • Lead Bunker Expense reporting for 10k, quarterly earnings call and other financial disclosures.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis based on forward looking speculation and scenarios.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 10 + years procurement experience with proven track record of successfully negotiating $100M+ global supply contracts and management of day to day operations.
  • A minimum of 8 years petroleum industry experience in refining, downstream operation, or marketing
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required in related field; Master’s degree preferred

 

Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Expert knowledge of global oils, chemicals and bunkers supply
  • Ability to work with professional teams in highly dynamic environment
  • Working knowledge of Platts, Argus, and Bunkerworld oil pricing services
  • High degree of knowledge in marine lubricants and supply options
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities
  • Negotiation and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from suppliers and all levels of staff and management, both shipboard and shoreside
