Position Summary:

The Global Security Manager of Investigations serves in a specialized role reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Global Security Investigations. The Manager ensures the safety and security of Royal Caribbean Group’s guests, employees, contractors, visitors, ships, capital equipment, real property, and reputation via shipboard security and safety incident response oversight.  In addition, the Manager investigates allegations of suspected violations of laws, policies and regulations in support of governmental agencies, corporate governance, administrative and prosecutorial action.  The incumbent may serve as the Acting Senior Manager, Investigations. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs the investigative function under senior management guidance. 
  • Accountable for planning, developing, implementing the organizations investigative programs and strategies. 
  • Responsible for overall planning, organizing, and directing all actions of the Investigative Section of Global Security, and ensure its effective operation.
  • Interprets all relevant data and applies appropriate laws, orders, rules and regulations pertaining to investigations.
  • In coordination with other RCL components, plans and conducts investigative operations, staffs investigative requirements and oversees training of subordinate investigators in the complete spectrum of investigative techniques. 
  • Directs, plans and carries out the most sensitive and complex investigations, investigative support operations and investigative staff projects.
  • Coordinates successful shipboard incident response through sound decision making, effective communication and guidance. 
  • Accountable for the effective assessment and mitigation of executive security risks, in cooperation with senior corporate executives.
  • Works closely with the Risk Management, Compliance and Ethics, Audit, Legal, and executive leadership in conducting shipboard and corporate investigations, reporting the results of investigations, and ensuring required follow-up with governmental officials.
  • Ensures the timely documentation and law enforcement reporting of shipboard crime allegations in support of company policy and the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act (CVSSA).
  • Develops and documents standards for measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of investigative operations.
  • Manages a sub-function of Global Security Investigations, such as the Watch List and Soap Programs.
  • Participates and handles extremely sensitive or high-profile investigations that may have political or social ramifications within the public domain. 
  • Provides briefings to law enforcement, shipboard security teams, and other company stakeholders.
  • Interacts with all levels within the organization, and acts as duty expert on investigative techniques. 
  • Participates in the development of handbooks, training manuals and related material covering a variety of communication systems and technical investigative programs.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of specific requirements imposed by government agencies.
  • Travels as needed to oversee investigations and develop liaison relationships.
  • Willing to work flexible hours in an office environment coupled with an atypical duty schedule on day or night shifts, including holidays and weekends.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 7 years of experience with a major law enforcement agency, or investigative experience with private sector organization.
  • Minimum of 10 years management experience.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement practices and procedures. 
  • Proven interview and interrogation skills required.
  • Experience in development and implementation of training programs.
  • Proven track record of effectively conducting complex investigations with the ability to professionally communicate the findings orally and in writing to include internal and external investigations.
  • Cruise industry investigative experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong writing and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to effectively and diplomatically communicate decisions and guidance.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Will exhibit mature and responsible decision-making, problem solving and proven judgment skills.
  • High level of tact, diplomacy, and independent judgment on actions of a highly confidential and sensitive nature and a detailed understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Self-driven to continually improve and actively work to bridge gaps in their knowledge in order to add more value to a particular project or setting.
  • Innovative and process driven individual who thrives in a start-up atmosphere rather than maintaining an already built system.
  • Capable of working independently and within a team, regardless of setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manual with the appropriate attention to details.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
