Manager, Design Integration

Position Summary:

The Manager, Design Integration is responsible for leading and developing the Integration function, including direct management of the Design Integration Leads, while owning the execution, governance, and continuous improvement of the design integration process across programs. The role works in close collaboration with Architectural Design, Naval Architecture, Technical Design, Program Management, and other integral disciplines to ensure design ambition is delivered within agreed schedule, cost, scope, quality, and risk guardrails.

As a senior partner to Design and Program leadership, this role provides strategic direction, oversight, and coaching to ensure consistent application of design integration practices, effective stakeholder alignment, and proactive identification and mitigation of design risks across the portfolio.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Design Integration Leads, setting clear priorities, performance expectations, and development plans.
  • Own and govern the Design Integration process, ensuring consistent execution, scalability, and continuous improvement across programs.
  • Provide oversight of design planning, tracking, and status reporting to ensure alignment with overall program objectives.
  • Serve as a senior integration partner to Design, Technical, Program Management, and Mission Control leadership.
  • Ensure effective cross-disciplinary collaboration and act as an escalation point for complex design integration challenges.
  • Review and challenge design schedules, risks, and mitigation strategies, proactively addressing impacts to time, cost, scope, or quality.
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and relevance of design dashboards, reports, and executive communications.
  • Support alignment of design scope, ambition, and financial parameters, ensuring transparency of cost implications.
  • Drive adherence to established design processes and recommend enhancements based on lessons learned and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and data-informed decision-making across the Design Integration team.
  • Remain current with industry trends related to design integration, project management, and large-scale capital programs.

Education:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a concentration in Architecture, Design, Construction, Business Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.

 

Experience:

Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in design integration, design management, or program planning roles on large, complex projects, including demonstrated experience leading teams and managing senior professionals.

 

Software Proficiency:

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project. Familiarity with AutoCAD and financial systems such as AMOS, Clarity, JDE, and Essbase preferred. This position may require travel to ships, shipyards, and/or vendor facilities in Europe, Asia, and North America (≤ 25%).

 

Knowledge Skills:

 

  • Strong people leadership and coaching capabilities with experience managing high-performing teams.
  • Deep understanding of design development, construction, materials, pricing, and industry standards.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on in complex integration challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and technical documentation, including drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
