Royal Caribbean Group’s Revenue Planning & Analysis Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Manager, Data Architecture reporting to the Senior Manager, Revenue Management Development & Systems.
This position is located in Miami.
Position Summary
The Database Migration manager will oversee the end-to-end migration of our new reservation system’s database to a new platform, ensuring data integrity, performance optimization, and minimal business disruption. This role involves leading cross-functional teams including DBAs, developers, infrastructure, and QA to plan, execute, and validate all phases of the migration. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in database architecture, data transformation, and cloud or hybrid environments, with proven experience managing large-scale transactional systems. Responsibilities include defining migration strategy, database development, coordinating testing and validation, implementing security and compliance standards, and managing risk and rollback plans. The role requires strong communication, stakeholder management, and the ability to translate technical execution into business outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Define and own the data architecture strategy and roadmaps that align with business goals for data platforms (data lake, data warehouse, data marts) across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Establish and enforce data governance, data quality, metadata management, data lineage, and data stewardship with clear standards, policies, and control mechanisms.
- Design and oversee scalable, secure data models, schemas, data pipelines, and integration patterns; optimize for performance, reliability, and cost.
- Lead data security and privacy practices, including access controls, encryption, masking, audit logging, and compliance with regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- Manage data migration and modernization programs: planning, prioritization, risk management, budgeting, resource allocation, and stakeholder coordination.
- Collaborate with business, analytics, and IT stakeholders to translate requirements into architectural designs and communicate decisions to executives.
- Govern data cataloging and discovery, promoting data literacy with clear ownership, lineage, and stewardship practices.
- Drive platform standardization and technology evaluation, including tool selection, cloud services, and cost models to optimize total cost of ownership.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the data architecture team; manage performance, career growth, and recruitment.
- Establish and maintain architecture governance artifacts (reference architectures, decision records, architectural reviews) and thorough documentation.
- Ensure disaster recovery, backup, and resilience planning for data platforms and maintain proactive observability and incident response readiness.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business or related field preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university required (in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field).
- 6-8 years of work experience in related field preferred.
- Proficiency with different database technologies (Oracle, Databricks), knowledge of RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server) and NOSQL, and experience with Cloud databases.
- Ability to code in SQL and Python to manipulate data
- Ability to create conceptual, logical, and physical data models, including normalization/denormalization, OLTP, OLAP, Star schemas.
- Experience with tools to design and implement ETL processes and workflows, implementing Python/Spark-based pipelines that are scalable and optimized for performance
- Understanding of data warehouse concepts, structures, and best practices, and ability to design and deploy data solutions in a cloud environment.
- Experience establishing data security, privacy, and compliance frameworks and guidelines, implementing data encryption, masking, and auditing techniques.
- Experience implementing frameworks for data quality management, ensuring data accuracy, proper testing, validation, and data availability.
- Ability to align company goals with data architecture and management strategies, to build data acquisition, storage, and usage capabilities to support business objectives.
- Experience planning phases of new development, migration, and system building, including cut-over and roll back strategies.
- Ability to provide clear and comprehensive documentation related to data architectures, systems, and processes.
- Experience communicating complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders and effectively collaborating with various departments to align data strategies with organizational needs
- Experience leading projects and teams towards achieving data-related objectives, delivering multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring timely delivery
- Experience mentoring engineers and analysts on architecture, data development, performance tuning, and cloud design.
