Royal Caribbean Group’s Royal Caribbean International brand has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Lead, Adventure Ocean Fleet Operations on the Hotel Operations Team reporting to the Manager, Adventure Ocean.

 

This position will work onsite in Miami, Florida

 

Position Summary:

 

This position will be responsible for the daily support of all Youth Operations fleetwide.  Responsibilities will include all policies procedures and SQM, safety and security, day-to-day training and operations, supplies & logistics, inventory & ordering, and programming of all Youth, Teen, Nursery and Family activities. The Lead, Adventure Ocean will work closely with the Safety Team to ensure all Youth Evacuation and Infant Evacuation plans are up to standard and followed, as well as with the Access team for all accommodation needs and, in particular, Autism Friendly Programming, including single child cruising and group cruising, special offers, and compliance with the program.

 

Additional responsibilities include the overall management of the Wishes at Sea program and shipboard program compliance with all United States Public Health (USPH) standards and new initiatives. This position will also oversee and support all Youth Staff, Adventure Ocean Assistant Manager and Adventure Ocean Manager development and support, promotion process, coaching and discipline. This position oversees an annual budget of $1.3M.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As the fleet point person for all thing’s youth, communicate effectively and regularly with AAOM's, and AOM's to provide fanatical support, coaching opportunities and to disseminate information as required to maintain activity programs utilizing on-site ship visits, email, teams/messenger, Webex and conference calls.
  • Develop and maintain Brand Standards, Standard Operating Procedures, Activity write ups, program overviews, training manuals and media for new activities and events to ensure onboard execution is brand appropriate and consistent fleetwide for all Nurseries, Adventure Ocean and Teen Areas.
  • Support Senior Manager, AO & Family Strategic Ops with Newbuild operations, new events, revitalizations and new activities to smoothly transition the concepts to the ship and onboard team from a startup to a successful day to day operation.
  • Review guest comments and ratings to deliver feedback to shoreside Youth & Family team along with the Adventure Ocean Managers and Cruise Directors shipboard. Develop objectives for changes or new programs as a result, if appropriate.
  • Manage and communicate the schedules of the Assistant Adventure Ocean Managers.  Work with Cruise Directors and Adventure Ocean Managers to ensure casting of the correct management. Partner with Scheduling Specialist, Manager, Adventure Ocean & Family Fleet Operations to continually evaluate all Youth Staff, Adventure Ocean Assistant Manager, and Adventure Ocean Manager job responsibilities, berthing, working hours, rules and regulations and career path opportunities.
  • Coach staff to improve performance in supervisory roles. Develop potential training programs and ongoing education for Youth Staff. Interview and approve all shipboard Adventure Ocean Assistant Manager positions for both internal and external candidates. Support with Adventure Ocean manager scheduling and hiring as needed by the Manager.
  • Maintain the internal websites Homeport, SharePoint and Smartsheet(s) data retention for Adventure Ocean, Teens, Nursery and Family programming.
  • Partner with Purchasing to determine the best vendors for the overall product development for Adventure Ocean and for new programming regarding newbuilds, i.e. gifts, prizes, supplies holidays and special events/sailings. Work with vendors directly related to shipboard youth activities to ensure the quality of the product while maintaining low expenses.
  • Travel to ships to provide operational support including training and coaching as needed for all youth and teen programming. Work alongside preexisting partners and vendors for necessary shipboard or shoreside training(s) and summits.
  • Analyze par implications, guest throughput for new programming and existing programs to create recommendations for the operation as it pertains to Adventure Ocean and Family programming and any revenue generating youth activities.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Education, Travel and Leisure and/or Hospitality Management or related field.
  • Five to seven years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and cruise-related program experience.
  • Minimum of two to five years of cruise shipboard experience preferred with at least one year of shipboard experience being AOM, AAOM or Youth Program Management preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, PC and time management skills required. The evaluation is a snapshot at a given time. Future projects or expected results should not be considered (the only exception would be startup positions).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills.
  • Possess strong leadership skills, time management skills, and written and oral communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with all senior levels of operational personnel.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
