Position Summary:

The Estimator will lead a future team responsible for developing an estimating process and database to support pricing and estimating strategies for Fleet Modernization and Newbuilding workscope and projects. As part of this team, the Estimator will establish budgets for Revitalizations Projects and will support the Newbuilding Teams reviewing Shipyard costs and architectural design intent renderings, etc. This role will be instrumental in developing an estimating process and introducing estimating software to support the estimating vision for the Department. The Estimator will have broad experience and be self-motivated with a thorough understanding of estimating processes; capable of developing estimates with little supervision.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide cost estimate support to a cross-functional/inter-disciplinary team developing and delivering on strategic initiatives and long-term goals as well as short term tactical projects. 
  • Candidate should demonstrate a systematic and organized approach towards cost estimation 
  • work.  
  • Evaluate Company's data in order to develop cost database for estimating costs and resources, etc. 
  • Perform research, gather quotations to build project budgets and associated real time database. 
  • Read / analyze and interpret construction plans and specifications to determine required quantities from a set of site work drawings/blueprints/specifications to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. 
  • Track / control architectural design process of venues / brand development as related to the impact on budget. 
  • Perform project cost and forecast audits. 
  • Establish and maintain an estimating discipline that provides budget costs for new and refurbished spaces associated with the Fleet Modernization and Newbuild programs. 
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of scheduling and estimating software. 
  • Candidate may need to balance multiple projects that will likely be executed in multiple locations and by multiple contractors. Candidate must be flexible and able to balance / prioritize multiple priorities. 
  • Must be willing to travel as required by project (probably 0-20%)

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university with a concentration in engineering, naval architecture, project management or related field. 
  • 7 – 10 years estimating experience, focused on project development. 
  • Ship or land construction experience preferred. 
  • Software: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD required. Experience with estimating software considered ideal. 
  • Keen understanding of cost relations and ratios building. 
  • Advanced capabilities in written, oral, and graphic media. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.  
  • Organized and detail oriented with excellent analytical, financial and spreadsheet modeling skills.   
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Represents department and self in a competent professional manner.  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
