Royal Caribbean Group’s Royal Caribbean International has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Director, Safety, Health, and Sustainability on the Hotel Operations Team reporting to the VP, Private Destinations.

 

 

This position will work onsite in Miami, Florida.

 

 

How you can make an impact.

 

You would be responsible for proactively evaluating and reducing the risks associated with each Private Destination’s operation by ensuring processes and systems comply with each jurisdiction’s laws, company policy, and industry best practices. 

 

 

What your day-to-day will look like:

 

Risk Management & Safety

 

  • Lead Risk Management and Safety for current and future Private Destinations. Including Perfect Day at CocoCay, Labadee, Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island, Perfect Day Mexico, Royal Beach Club Cozumel, and Royal Beach Club Lelepa as well as any additional destinations being planned for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Risk Management and Safety applies to all Guests, Team Members, and Contractors.

 

  • Identify, communicate, and manage all safety standards for each Private Destination and Royal Beach Club. Systematically check for compliance to standards with Leadership Team.

 

  • Develop Private Destinations risk management and safety policies in line with company policies and destination country laws. Ensure that responsible parties implement these policies and that compliance and continuous improvement are maintained.

 

  • Budget for and arrange all third-party inspections to maintain compliance to attraction and legal safety standards. Plan for corrective action plans with appropriate stakeholders based on reviews.

 

  • Maintain all safety inspection, building, and commissioning records.

 

  • Develop and manage periodic Risk Register and Risk Assessments for each Private Destination and Beach Club. Develop strategies to reduce or eliminate risks with Leadership Team.

 

  • Ensure incident investigations and Riskonnect Reports are thorough, detailed, and identify root cause. Ensure all corrective action is assigned and completed according to defined timelines.

 

  • Develop and manage all emergency related documentation with Leadership Team, including but not limited to: Emergency Action Plan, Hurricane Plan, Accelerated Recovery, and Business Continuity Plan. Responsible for updates based on feedback, internal expertise, and governing jurisdiction recommendations.

 

  • Analyze injury data and statistics related to guest and employee injuries. Develop strategic plans to prevent injuries with Leadership Team.

 

  • Identify the resources and budget required to maintain safe practices on each Private Destination and Royal Beach Club (i.e. training, licensing, equipment, etc.).

 

  • Develop digital forms, databases, and automated workflows to increase efficiency, transparency, and follow through.

 

  • Identify and promote relevant safety training and resources for team members at Private Destinations and Royal Beach Clubs.

 

  • Review incidents and corrective actions with destinations to ensure reduction of similar incidents for all Private Destinations and Royal Beach Clubs.

 

  • Represent Royal Caribbean at industry events as an instructor/trainer.

 

 

Environmental & Sustainability

 

  • Lead Environmental and Sustainability efforts for current and future Private Destinations. Including Perfect Day at CocoCay, Labadee, Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island, Perfect Day Mexico, Royal Beach Club Cozumel, and Royal Beach Club Lelepa as well as any additional destinations being planned for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.

 

  • Identify, communicate, and manage all environmental and sustainability standards for each Private Destination and Royal Beach Club. Systematically check for compliance to standards with Leadership Team.

 

  • Develop Private Destinations environmental and sustainability policies in line with company policies and destination country laws. Ensure that responsible parties implement these policies, and that compliance and continuous improvement are maintained.

 

  • Ensure compliance with Royal Caribbean’s Sustainable Development Principles for all Private Destinations and Royal Beach Clubs.

 

  • Responsible for GSTC certification of Private Destinations and all on-going audits.

 

  • Ensure full compliance of environmental laws according to the country where the Private Destination and Royal Beach Club operates.

 

  • Develop systems for maintaining and monitoring digital records that apply to environmental performance such as IPM Log, Wastewater Treatment Logs, etc.

 

  • Identify and promote relevant Environmental training and resources for team members at Private Destinations and Royal Beach Clubs.

 

  • Develop and promote programs that promote the well-being of the communities surrounding Private Destinations and Royal Beach Clubs.

 

 

Public Health

 

  • Lead Public Health for current and future Private Destinations. Including Perfect Day at CocoCay, Labadee, Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island, Perfect Day Mexico, Royal Beach Club Cozumel, and Royal Beach Club Lelepa as well as any additional destinations being planned for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.

 

  • Identify, communicate, and manage all public health standards for each Private Destination and Royal Beach Club. Systematically check for compliance to standards with Leadership Team.

 

  • Develop Private Destinations public health and sanitation policies in line with company policies and destination country laws. Ensure that responsible parties implement these policies and that compliance and continuous improvement are maintained.

 

  • Develop and manage all public health related documentation with Leadership Team, including but not limited to: OPP+ Plan, Water Safety Plan, IPM Plan, Infectious Disease Control Plan. Responsible for updates based on feedback, internal expertise, and governing jurisdiction recommendations.

 

  • Manage public health and sanitation audits, analyzes resulting trends, proposes corrective actions, and develops solutions from lessons learned.

 

  • Coordinate training of Private Destination personnel in public health and sanitation, inspects the work environment, machinery and other equipment used for food preparation for conformance with regulatory and company standards.

 

  • Manage the IPM plan for Private Destinations. Provide expertise and IPM support to Corporate and Private Destination Leadership.

 

  • Content owner of the OPP+ including updates, revisions based on feedback from the fleet, industry, in-house experts and CDC recommendations.

 

  • Organize approvals for VSP variances, filings, and interpretations.

 

  • Coordinates public health internal reviews with the Public Health Inspectors. Conduct performance analyses, based on regulatory inspections, trends. and internal audits.

 

  • Coordinate attendance for Public Health seminars and other public health related courses.

 

  • Coordinate and attend CDC plan review meeting for new destinations. Participate and provide public health expertise support in Public Health construction inspections for new buildings.

 

 

Accessibility and Inclusion

 

  • Lead Accessibility and Inclusion efforts for current and future Private Destinations. Including Perfect Day at CocoCay, Labadee, Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island, Perfect Day Mexico, Royal Beach Club Cozumel, and Royal Beach Club Lelepa as well as any additional destinations being planned for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.

 

  • Evaluate accessibility for all Private Destinations and Beach Clubs and recommend improvements.

 

  • Identify and engage third parties that offer certifications related to improved accessibility, such as IBCCES. Implement programs to achieve certifications of Private Destinations and Royal Beach Clubs.

 

  • Monitor feedback and implement appropriate corrective actions for accessibility and inclusion concerns.

 

  • Lead the development and maintenance of accessibility guides for Private Destinations and Royal Beach Clubs.

 

 

General

 

  • Provide expertise and assistance to Corporate, Product Development, Celebrity, and Private Destination management teams in these areas.

 

  • Provide constant review and feedback for development of new destinations including design drawings, procedures, equipment, site visits, etc. This includes any improvements to Perfect Day at CocoCay and Labadee, as well as the Paradis Island Royal Beach Club, Lelepa, Celebrity Private Destinations, and other destinations.

 

  • Observe and interview Private Destination supervisors and employees at work to determine both actual work practices and compliance with applicable standards and procedures.

 

  • Evaluate new projects and products for compliance with the latest safety, environmental, accessibility, and public health guidelines and policies.

 

  • Lead projects or portions of projects that apply to safety, sustainability, accessibility, public health, or waterparks.

 

  • Develop training criteria for all levels of employees to support safety, sustainability, accessibility, and public health education with the Learning and Development Department as well as Private Destinations Leadership.

 

  • Liaise with operational support teams to ensure corrective action and implementation of best practices are shared and implemented.

 

  • Supports the planning and management of an operations expense budgets of $100M+. This will exponentially increase with the execution of site master plans and opening of new Private Destinations.

 

  • Supports the planning and management of a capital expense budgets of up to $25M+. This will exponentially increase with the execution of site master plans and opening of new Private Destinations.

 

 

How to achieve success:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university; and/or five to seven years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

  • Knowledge of public health and sanitation regulations from federal, state, local and global government agencies.

 

  • Strong background in public health compliance and procedures, including HACCP.

 

  • Minimum of 7 years hotel, theme park, cruise ship, maritime or industrial / public safety experience with primary responsibilities in the training, implementation and administration of safety systems and procedures strongly preferred.

 

  • Must have very good written and verbal communication skills.

 

  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

 

  • Ability to prepare detailed documentation from which processes and policies will be developed, tested and ultimately maintained.

 

  • Must be able to use analytical and methodical approach to technical writing.

 

  • Ability to develop and organize tactical plans utilizing project management principles.

 

  • Ability to communicate tactfully with department heads, managers, coworkers and shipboard employees to reach consensus on complex issues/processes.

 

  • Must have a professional demeanor, good analytical, organizational and project management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

 

  • Occasional travel required.

 

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical reports and legal documents.

 

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies through e-mail and / or phone.

 

  • Computer Skills: Must be proficient in Windows environment including Power Platform and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.

 

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

 

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
