Director, Quality Assurance

POSITION OVERVIEW

The position will be a member of the Global eCommerce team and report to the AVP of Ecom. Operations. In this role, the Director of quality assurance will help develop, maintain, and drive towards optimizing our software engineering quality eco-system to ensure Product Engineering teams are meeting high bars of quality, reliability, and agility. You will be a crucial leader supporting the group’s mission of modernizing how guests consider, book, and plan their cruise vacations for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruise Line.  Ensuring quality is the backbone of our eCommerce business which helps generate over $2B in cruise tickets and pre-cruise products. revenue

 

This position will be responsible for setting, delivering, and implementing an effective and efficient overall quality program for product and operational teams to adopt. This entails developing and understanding general quality testing processes, reporting, test automation programs, expanding resources/training and assessment, and staying current on rapidly evolving Q/A best practices and technology. The individual in this role must be a strong team player and work with multiple teams to help ensure quality is at the forefront of delivering products to our guests/users.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define, design, and implement the strategic direction of test automation and a comprehensive end-to-end testing approach for the entire technology stack: Front end, API Layer, and data layers
  • Create repeatable methods and best practices to assess, measure and communicate the overall quality metrics of each product and supporting team.
  • Define and implement a culture of quality engineering which encourages high levels of adoption of new processes and technologies required to achieve quality goals.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering leads and institute quality engineering operating mechanisms to support our quality, performance, and scalability goals
  • Establish a high-performing, inclusive engineering culture focused on innovation, execution, growth, and development
  • You will lead full-stack quality engineering team members who are embedded into our multidisciplinary product teams and are focused on building consumer experiences
  • Collaborate closely with functional leads across teams like Product, Dev Ops, Site Reliability
  • Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledgeable in determining QA baseline, establishing a vision, and gaining buy-in from teams 
  • Experience with automation tools like Cypress, Java Rest Assured, Appium, Webdriver.io
  • Experience with build automation and continuous integration tools like Jenkins or Maven
  • You are comfortable with helping and connecting with all QA team members from all skill sets/levels 
  • Experience with behavior-driven development; Cucumber or similar
  • Experience with large customer-facing applications
  • Attention to detail and dependability
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal as well as communicating with top-level executives
  • Strong time management and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Flexible approach and adaptable to change
  • Strong desire to learn new systems, processes
  • Experience working with globally dispersed teams

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 10+ years of overall software engineering experience
  • Last 6+ years in Quality Engineering
  • 5+ years leading full-stack quality engineers in a supervisory role
  • A strong track record of crafting a comprehensive test automation strategy across the entire tech stack with a strong emphasis on the Front end
  • You are comfortable with JavaScript and native mobile technologies.
  • You are also passionate about nonfunctional requirements testing: performance / Load testing using JMeter or similar.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in hiring, building teams, retaining top talent, establishing scalable and sustainable test automation architecture, and quality engineering best practices through multiple maturity levels.
