Director, Newbuild and Revitalizations Hotel Operations

Royal Caribbean Group’s Celebrity Cruises brand has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Director, Newbuild and Revitalizations Hotel Operations on the Hotel Operations Team reporting to the AVP, Hotel Operations Newbuild and Revitalizations.

This position will work onsite in Miami, Florida.

 

Position Summary:

In this role, you would be responsible for supporting all capital projects such as refurbishment work, revitalizations, post-delivery scope and special projects under the leadership of the AVP of Hotel Operations Newbuild, who is the key leader and decision maker on behalf of Operations. You would work closely with the Newbuild Design Teams, Newbuild Solutions Team, Hotel and Technical Refurbishment Teams, Product Development and Brand Strategy, as well as Hotel and Marine Operations teams. You would drive the process from planning to post-execution, ensuring the ship delivers a quality Celebrity Cruises Vacation Experience from the moment it is back in service to assure we accomplish our guest satisfaction, onboard revenue, and expense targets. The Director, Newbuild Hotel Operations Newbuild and Revitalizations represents the entire Hotel Operations department, ensures flawless communication with all cross functional teams, and makes decisions as needed on behalf of Hotel Operations throughout the various phases of each project.

In this role, you would need strong project management, leadership, financial acumen, collaboration, and decision-making skills which are critical to be successful in this position. Previous experience working on newbuild and/or revitalizations, with shipyard and site office experience beneficial.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports operational decisions in general design of the vessels and projects, ensuring all logistical requirements are met.
  • Provides support in the development of all revitalization venues and programming, including but not limited to planning, financial review, and meeting all budget requirements.
  • Assesses the condition of vessels such as maintenance needs and ship specific issues via condition review process.
  • Develops and manages the vessel disposition plan (asset disposition / transfer / documentation process).
  • Supports key leaders during the decision-making processes and takes the lead with Supply Chain, Fleet Modification, and the different operational sponsors for the timely definition of owner supply and FF&E; with implications to the life cycle of our fleet.  
  • Supports all projects in conjunction with Fleet Modification, IT, and Operational groups to ensure the feasibility, safety, and practicality.
  • Compiles, plans and analyzes the financial impact of projects.
  • Drives punch lists and guarantee claims as part of post-delivery support on board the delivered vessels.
  • Coordinates inspections to ensure work is being completed professionally and accurately while adhering to project schedule.
  • Defines the hotel operations activities and ensures key individuals’ participation and collaboration is upheld.
  • Develops and manages key milestones by tracking program progress against milestone plan, building simulations, and detailed schedules through issue identification, analysis, and multi-departmental communication.
  • Serves as on-site representative for Hotel Operations during the entire project process- from concept to completion. Liaises with yard, Fleet Modification team, functional support groups and shipboard management.
  • Liaise with brand operating department representatives involved in the Modernization and Refurbishment of a ship: Hotel and Marine Operations, Global Marine Technical teams, Design, Finance, Procurement, HR, IT, Shore Excursion, Onboard Revenue, Revenue Management, Sales and Marketing, Safety and Environment, and shipyards. 
  • Ensures vessel is in compliance with all relevant regulations from various authorities.
  • Maintains good working relations with the yard, outfitters, and internal stakeholders.
  • Owns risk assessment and management.
  • Leads Special Projects:
    • Coordinates and follows the shipyard contracted works as owner’s main representative.
    • Leads under owner’s scope of delivery. Coordinates the design, sourcing and production of the projects on budget, quality and contract.
  • Owners Work Coordination
    • Organizes and coordinates the ship class special Owners Work during the vessel post-delivery phases.
    • Coordinates projects under owner’s progress and completion in cooperation with the owners work team.
  • Confers with matrixed constituent department representatives and vendors to outline milestones, establish work plans, responsibilities, scope, and tracking routines. 
  • Manages and coordinates at a high level, all general procedures and regulatory classification and safety issues with classification and regulatory societies.
  • Responsible for a ship’s hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, comfort, safety and energy efficiency.
  • Translates specific projects’ scope of work into SOV’s (schedule of values) to submit through the bidding process.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • 13+ years of experience supporting technical projects, shipbuilding, or ship revitalization.
  • 13+ years of related work experience within a large corporation or consulting firm.
  • Institute of Marine Engineers/Naval Architects or similar background.
  • Possess both project management and hotel management background with extensive previous experience leading and supporting large projects, from planning to execution and delivery, as well as strong experience in supporting a variety of units on a day-to-day basis within a large organization.
  • Strong planning skills as well as a solid understanding of financial operations with a demonstrated ability to handle fast paced decision making and crisis management.
  • Strong ability to manage a budget.
  • Strong regulatory knowledge (SQM, Public Health etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of SOLAS, IMO, classification rules, and marine standards.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience in new building processes and site surveys.
  • Good understanding of technical systems onboard.
  • PMP preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand CAD drawings.
  • Software: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project required. AMOS and Essbase preferred.
  • Solid organizational and planning skills, familiarity with project management and systems management.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills with the strong ability to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical, financial, and spreadsheet modeling skills. 
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
