Director, New Build Projects Outfitting

Position Summary: 

Provides the primary outfitting direction, expertise, and management to the new buildings department covering both new builds and revitalization projects undertaken by the department. The incumbent will direct the development of projects, defining the scope of work, schedules of values and budget definition in conjunction with the design department and other functionaries within the project group. They will take an active part in vendor negotiations, vendor selection and continuously manage all communications and correspondence between the relevant parties, both internally and externally. Will oversee the execution of projects and will be responsible for compliance of all rules and regulations as applicable. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Oversees the outfitting development for fleet modernizations, new build owner's projects, and ad hoc projects, while integrating all technical disciplines within the scope. 

  • Ensures that all outfit equipment ordered for installation is appropriate, cost effective and in accordance with applicable industry codes. 

  • Accountable for ensuring prompt initiation of future projects to align with Newbuild's requirements. 

  • Stay current on relevant technical research and projects; seek information and evaluate new technology for use on board, and run test programs on such equipment together with manufacturing company and RCCL teams. 

  • Directs at a high level, all general procedures and regulatory classification and safety issues between new building office(s) and classification and regulatory societies in relation to outfit areas. 

  • Execute projects and direct the technical and administrative aspects with the senior superintendents and/or consultants in the group relevant to the project requirements. 

  • Uses technical abilities, expertise, and interpersonal skills to motivate, encourage and influence group members to achieve optimum results. 

  • Responsible for leading the team through the estimation, budgeting and analysis of Projects, Revitalization and New Buildings in relation to owners work discipline. 

  • Responsible for overseeing the timely return of drawings from contractors for approval, and the coordination of such with the pertinent members in the matrix management. 

  • Facilitates the creation of project plans and enforces the deadlines. Ensures plans are in line with the relevant schedules and effectively communicates changes to all parties involved in the project. 

  • Evaluates document management methods to enhance workflow, streamline reporting procedures, and achieve cost savings. 

  • Oversees the assembly of composite reports from individual team members' submissions and contributes to the development of high-level executive presentations. 

  • Travel, as and when required, to support project development, vendor visits to vessels and site teams at locations shortly before and during all projects. 

  • Reports directly to the VP Technical Projects, New building. 

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills 

  • Masters degree from an accredited school in the study of architecture or engineering management or, substantial completion of Bachelors program with commensurate work experience such as naval architecture. 

  • 10-15 years of experience required. Must be proficient with the working drawing process inclusive of drawing, dimensioning and detailing floor plans, elevations, sections and details. 

  • Project management experience in shipbuilding is critical. 

  • Must be familiar with the working drawing process inclusive of drawing, dimensioning and detailing floor plans, elevations, sections and details. 

  • Ability to understand and interpret architectural plans, sections, elevations, and details. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills are absolutely required, as well as the ability to be a strong team player. A proven background in team building and personnel development is a must. 

  • Process-improvement centric, especially in areas of project development strategy, planning and estimation. 

  • Working knowledge of Windows NT, Microsoft Word, Excel and familiarity with Autocad system. 

  • Must be proactive, organized and have the ability to take initiative, be multi-faceted. Will be required to use and develop project specific software for project development, management and tracking. 

  • Must be proficient with the working drawing process inclusive of drawing, dimensioning and detailing floor plans, elevations, sections, and details. 

  • Project management experience in shipbuilding is critical.
