Director, Fleet Technical
POSITION SUMMERY: This position is responsible for coordinating and providing overall leadership and support to Ship Managers, Marine Technical Operations, and ensuring that all operational systems are streamlined and followed.
A nominated Senior Ship Manager, Marine Operations will serve as Deputy for this position. The Fleet Director supports the Royal Caribbean Group’s vision and mission by overseeing the technical operations in the Marine Technical Operations department and the daily operational and financial management of the fleet. This includes ensuring compliance with company standards, policies, and regulations, as well as managing succession planning, training, evaluation, and development for key personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Leadership and Coordination: Provide overall leadership and support to Ship Managers, Marine Technical Operations, ensuring that all operational systems are streamlined and followed.
• Compliance: Ensure that the ships continuously operate in compliance with all company standards, policies, and appropriate practices, and within the rules and regulations of the appropriate governing authorities and agencies.
• Operational Management: Oversee the technical operations in the Marine Technical Operations department and the daily operational and financial management of the fleet.
• Succession Planning and Training: Manage succession planning, training, evaluation, and development for key Marine Technical Operations personnel shipboard and shoreside.
• Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for the Marine Technical Operations department, ensuring cost-effective operations and adherence to financial targets.
• Safety and Environmental Compliance: Implement and monitor safety and environmental compliance programs to ensure the fleet operates within legal and regulatory requirements.
• Performance Monitoring: Regularly review and analyze fleet performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, regulatory bodies, and customers.
• Project Management: Lead and manage special projects related to fleet operations, ensuring timely and successful completion.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Educational Background: A background as a Naval Architect or Marine/Mechanical Engineer with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university, or the international equivalent is preferred.
• Experience: 5-10 years of experience with a shipping company or major cruise line, classification society, or similar. Experience as a Chief Engineer within a major cruise line is highly desirable.
• Financial Management: Proven ability to manage the financial aspects of the assigned function, including the successful identification of operating efficiencies.
• Staff Management: Proven ability to manage headcount within an area and to manage a staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing, and managing employees as they work.
• Disciplinary Process: Proven ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate in a multicultural environment across all levels of the organization.
• Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects and priorities.
