Director, Capital Markets

Position Summary: 

Reporting directly to the AVP, Asst Treasurer Capital Markets the Director, Capital Markets and Treasury Operations is primarily responsible for two significant areas within the treasury department.  Treasury at Royal Caribbean is part of the shared services team and supports the entire global enterprise. 

First is capital markets transactions, liquidity financings (revolvers, term loans, commercial paper, etc.), and intercompany and third-party loans.  Duties include analysis and recommendations for the timing and structure of financings as well as negotiation and completion of documentation.  This culminates in the ownership of the $1 billion budget for interest expense.  In addition, the Director is responsible for all shareholder return programs including the dividend and share repurchases.   

Second is managing the team responsible for global treasury operations.  This team is responsible for the daily management of cash, investment of excess cash, processing of payments, spot trading of foreign currencies, and short-term liquidity forecasting.  In addition, the Director is responsible for managing and building efficiencies with our newly implemented treasury management system. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Structure, negotiate, coordinate, and implement financing agreements/transactions designed to ensure the company has adequate liquidity including revolvers, capital markets issuances, term loans, commercial paper. 

  • Lead all financing activities associated with JV projects including negotiating commercial points, reviewing documentation, and facilitating smooth execution working closely with the project manager as a leader in the JV team to push tasks forward to reach project milestone on-time; monitor and oversee financings once in place. 

  • Manage treasury operations including but not limited to payments, letters of credit, short-term liquidity forecasting, short-term investments, and bank account management 

  • Serve as the point person both internally and externally for the treasury management system  

  • Develop all interest expense forecasts with comparisons to actual results and for scenario planning 

  • Assist with bank and rating agency relationships including coordination of all presentations and responding to all requests for information. 

  • Ensure compliance with all Company covenants/reps, policies, and SOX requirements. 

  • Assist with crafting all SEC disclosures to ensure statements accurately describe activities managed by the department 

  • Prepare board materials and special projects as needed.

Financial Responsibilities: 

  • Create optimal financing structures with the goal of minimizing interest expense and maximizing ROIC 

  • Negotiation/re-negotiation of contracts to enhance our position via better terms, lower costs, or enhanced revenue streams 

  • Ensure daily Treasury operational needs are met including all liquidity needs 

  • Continually innovate and evaluate new opportunities for optimal fit within the Company eco-system 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related discipline required; MBA preferred 

  • 7+ years of treasury/accounting/finance roles with increasing levels of responsibility preferred 

  • Experience with treasury management systems 

  • Experience with reading, interpreting, and understanding financial documents 

  • Understanding capital markets, treasury operations, or other treasury related roles 

  • 5+ years of experience in leadership position preferred 

 

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to navigate a complex organization across various departments and personalities 

  • Demonstrated leadership, influencing, interpersonal and relationship building skills 

  • Advanced analytical skills 

  • Proven negotiating skills 

  • Strong systems knowledge including excel spreadsheets, power point presentations 

  • Exhibits a strong attention to detail 

 

Physical Demands: 

While performing job functions the employee is regularly required to sit, and stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a pc, communicate, listen, and assess information. The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations, and may lift, push, pull or move 10-15 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirements include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus. 

 

Work Environment: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The environment includes work inside/outside the office, travel to other offices, as well as domestic, international, and shipboard travel. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite
