Position Summary:  

Director Dry Dock plays pivotal role in ensuring successful execution of dry-docking projects across our fleet. Main responsibilities include scheduling the dry-docks and negotiating dry-dock contracts with shipyards in co-operations with Marine Operations, Legal department, and all other relevant stakeholders, developing comprehensive dry-docking specifications for all dry-docking activities, collaborating with internal stakeholders such as Ship Managers and Fleet Directors, and external contractors to ensure adherence to quality, safety, and budgetary requirements. Combination of technical expertise, project managements skills, and deep understanding of cruise ship operations is essential for this role. Director DD also identifies gaps in dry docking practices and initiates improvements to existing standards to drive safety and efficiency. Attend dry/wet docks as required to improve such standards and create best practices. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Schedule, negotiate and manage contracts with shipyards for dry-docking services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to high quality standards. Timely follow up the contract process with the Legal Department.   

  • Develop and write dry-docking specifications. Create detailed dry-docking specifications to ensure clarity and alignment with project objectives. 

  • Identify and address best practices from previous dry-docking projects into specifications, enhancing efficiency and quality. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive performance in key areas, such as safety, efficiency, and sustainability. 

  • Foster collaborations and effective communication of dry-docking projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budgetary constraints. 

  • Attend sea trials as required, including those for the ships fresh out from dry docks and new builds, to ensure compliance with specifications and standards. 

  • Provide technical expertise for dry-dockings and other technical initiatives, actively participating meetings, and workshops as necessary. 

  • Provide guidance and expertise for Marine Operations teams during dry-docking executions, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to standards. 

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities or problems relating to product, process, and quality systems as well as provide solutions through designated channels and verify implementation of such solutions.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Chief Engineer’s license with 10+ year’ experience onboard the cruise ships.  

  • 10+ years’ experience dry-docking. 

  •  Ability to manage the financial aspects of the assigned function, including the successful identification of expense reduction through cost efficiencies.  

  •  Person must excel in ability to manage a staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing employees as they work.  

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required. 

  • The ability to read and comprehend instructions in English required.  

  • Understand correspondence and memos to communicate effectively with various departments within the organization, both shipboard and shore side.  

  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed. 

Mathematical Skills: 

  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, discounts, interest and commissions and to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance, as well as foreign exchange rates. 

Reasoning Ability: 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems that arise with standardized solutions. Consult superiors when needed and SQM. 

Physical Demands: 

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those requirements employees must meet to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.  While performing job functions the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a pc, communicate, listen, and assess information. The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations, and may lift, push, pull or move 10 – 15 pounds. Visual requirements include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
