Assistant General Counsel, Compliance & Ethics

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant General Counsel -- Compliance & Ethics will leverage their deep understanding in the area of compliance and ethics to effectively lead and manage the Group’s global compliance and ethics function. The Assistant General Counsel -- Compliance & Ethics will be responsible for advising the Group on a wide-range of compliance and ethics matters, overseeing the design, implementation and operation of the Group’s global compliance and ethics programs, driving compliance goal setting and performance, aligning and coordinating priorities and activities with brand and other commercial and functional stakeholders.


RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide strategic direction and advise on ethical, legal and regulatory compliance matters across the company in a wide range of areas, including anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, competition, economic and trade sanctions, conflicts of interest, human rights, and data privacy/protection.
• Develop, lead, manage and maintain a world class global compliance and ethics function.
• Proactively identify compliance risk areas and strategies to mitigate them; and evaluate new compliance challenges.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships throughout the Group to ensure effective business and cross-functional relationships.
• Drive program objectives, milestones, metrics and reporting to continually enhance and scale the Group’s global compliance and ethics programs.
• Develop, maintain and regularly assess policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
• Conduct, oversee and provide support in connection with internal investigations.
• Keep abreast of developments in federal, state, and international privacy and data security laws and regulations.
• Prepare and deliver reports for senior management on the operation and performance of the Company's Compliance and Ethics function and programs.
• Set department goals and key results, and effectively manage team resources, including internal budgets in connection therewith.
• Ensure updates to policies and processes are properly implemented for the business to address legal and privacy requirements, including data subject access requests, privacy impact assessments, and records of processing activities.
• Support, counsel and, as needed, respond to data breaches and other incidents.
• Develop and deliver creative and effective ethics, compliance and privacy training and
awareness campaigns.


QUALIFICATIONS
• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school, and member in good standing of the Florida Bar or ability to register as a Florida in-house counsel.
• 15+ years of domestic and international compliance experience, in a multi-national public company or leading global law firm.
• Significant experience overseeing the response to high-stakes regulatory investigations and conducting associated internal investigations.
• Proven leadership capabilities, as demonstrated by successfully building, developing, and managing a team of legal or compliance professionals.
• Excellent legal and business judgment; a high degree of discretion; strong analytical skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and strong presentation skills.
• Proven ability to understand legal and regulatory concepts and convert them into relevant, practical business requirements.
• Expertise in US and foreign privacy and data protection laws strongly preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Demonstrated knowledge and clear understanding of the required elements of effective compliance programs and relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. In-depth knowledge of anti-corruption laws (e.g., FCPA, UK Bribery Action), trade sanctions (OFAC), data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
• Strong influencing skills: proven track record and experience building and cultivating relationships with key partners and stakeholders across organizational levels.
• Strong process-orientation and proven effectiveness in identifying, developing and implementing scalable/sustainable process and other continuous improvements to achieve organizational efficiencies and increase effectiveness
• Team oriented, adaptive, and quick learner.
• Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively with internal colleagues and outside legal advisors.
• Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills and demonstrated maturity and good judgment.
• Ability to manage numerous challenging work assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly skilled in all MS Office applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Familiarity with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tools and systems.
