Analyst, Sales & Use Tax

Royal Caribbean team has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Sales Tax Analyst, reporting to the Senior Manager, Tax Strategy.

 

Position Summary

The Sales Tax Analyst prepares and reviews U.S. federal, state, local and miscellaneous tax filings, and certain non-U.S. indirect tax filings. Gathers data for tax reporting, filings, and examinations, prepares journal entries, reconciles general ledger accounts, maintains tax calendar, and performs tax technical research.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gathers appropriate data, analyzes accounts and records and from that information prepares Sales & Use, income tax return work-papers.
  • Prepares monthly tax forecast updates and variance analysis.
  • Prepares tax entries and reconciles tax accounts.
  • Gathers appropriate information and prepares (but not limited to) the following returns:
    • gross receipts tax returns
    • alcohol excise tax returns
    • gaming tax returns and withholding tax deposits
    • tangible personal property tax returns.
    • shipboard casino winnings
    • Non-U.S. indirect tax filings
    • other miscellaneous tax filings as necessary
  • Supervise, assign tasks, and coordinate the preparation of tax filings and workpapers with staff in outside outsourcing firms (e.g., third-party tax return preparers and consulting firms)
  • Prepares and coordinates timely tax payments to various income tax authorities (Italy, Spain, China, Australia, India, & Brazil).
  • Reconciles tax accounts, prepare budgets and forecasts of VAT, GST, Freight Tax and other global taxes.
  • Assists in global tax audits and responds to notices received from tax authorities relating to the above-mentioned tax filings.
  • Communicate with shipboard personnel to gather information required for return filings.
  • Updates state and local sales tax rate, VAT, GST tables for all ships onboard point of sale system.
  • Coordinating with SOVOS to manage and transmit Tax documents (e.g., W-2G & 1042s Forms) to appropriate tax authorities
  • Performs state and local tax and international regulatory research to ensure company is tax compliant.
  • Responds to requests from vendors, Accounts Payable and Purchasing for sales tax exemption certificates.
  • Assists Sr. Tax Manager with state, and local tax authority inquiries and audits.
  • Serves as a resource for tax department management in assisting with the day-to-day issues and inquiries that arise from other areas of the company.
  • Assists with accounting for income taxes under ASC 450 research and analysis.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, or similar business field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of tax-related experience, public accounting, or industry.
  • Highly proficient in excel.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Certified Public Accountant or candidate preferred.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, including the ability to simplify technical jargon, public speaking ability.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Proficient PC skills: 
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, JD Edwards, EssBase, Tax Calendar, on-line research tools

 

Physical Requirement

The physical demands described here are representative of those requirements employees must meet to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations. While performing job functions the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a pc, communicate, listen, and assess information. The employee may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations and may lift, push, pull or move 10 - 15 pounds. Visual requirements include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Miami based position with some travel.
