The Royal Caribbean Group’s Risk Management Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Adjuster, Guest Claims reporting to the Sr. Director, Guest Claims & Litigation.
The position is onsite and based in Miami, Florida
The position is also not eligible for work authorization sponsorship.
Position Summary:
The Guest Claims Adjuster investigates and evaluates passenger claims, including but not limited to, personal injury and medical negligence Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity. Negotiates out of court settlements with h claimant and attorneys assists in house counsel and outside counsel with litigation, including discovery matters and investigations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend bi-weekly departmental meeting and present their selected cases or issues for discussion.
- Board ship (independently or accompanied by defense attorneys) to conduct investigations and interviews of guest(s), crewmember(s), and/or Officer(s).
- Review guest statements and accident reports (as prepared by Safety Officer) and informs Supervisor and/or Manager of potential trends.
- Open and maintain files for active guest claims.
- Notify the appropriate P&I Club or other insurance carriers and keep them updated.
- Investigate claims for all facts. Evaluate, and determine potential liability.
- Correspond with guest(s) or their attorney in an effort to resolve their claim.
- Handle litigation files and provide discovery documents and/or information requested by defense attorneys.
- Meets with defense attorneys to review files and determine a strategy for company defense (settle, or litigate)
- Prepare settlement drafts and releases.
- Attend mediations, depositions and/or trials as a company representative.
- Communicate with the vessels and shoreside departments for additional documentation and information.
- Maintains harmony among staff members and resolves grievances.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent four-year equivalent preferred, associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 2 to 3 years related experience and/or training required.
- Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
- Must be able to retain a flexible schedule.
- May be contacted at home for assistance.
- Ability to, read, analyze, and interpret common medical and technical reports, and legal documents. Ability to communicate with our guests, fellow employees, shipboard staff, and our business partners. Ability to effectively present information to Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Vice President (RM Dept.).
- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to speak, read, and write a second language is preferred.
