POSITION OVERVIEW
The AVP for Clinical Operations is responsible for managing the company’s clinical operations and policy. He/she will serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in overseeing the Medical Division of the RCG Health Department. This business-critical role supports the CMO in ensuring the health of our nearly 8 million annual travelers and our 100,000 crew, globally, across our fleet of ships. In addition, she/he will develop and manage the administration of our clinal practice and serve as the lead clinician for our shipboard medical teams, leading the development of clinical policy and assuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.
Effective leadership and communication skills are essential for this role, as she/he will help guide an entire healthcare team and will support the development and implementation of innovative action plans and culture change. Having a strong business acumen to understand financial, human resources, legal, and political aspects of healthcare also is essential. The AVP for Clinical Operations must have good organizational skills to support the CMO in tracking goal achievement, managing a budget, and keeping records in compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies. Mastery of technical skills to review and assess electronic health systems and records is a key aspect of the role’s responsibilities and expectations. She/he will possess excellence in clinical judgment and be a goal-oriented strategist and advocate for ensuring quality in policies, processes, and patient care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with the CMO in developing, implementing and refining the long-term strategy, vision, goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Medical Operations Division of RCG Health.
- Help guide technical and subject matter experts in the development of successful programs and practices to meet shipboard and corporate medical needs.
- Lead company-wide development of policy recommendations, plans, and objectives to improve medical services and care delivery.
- Manage and oversee clinical policies and procedures consistent with best practices and standards of medical care.
- Partner with the CMO in directing and coordinating company-wide strategic activities to protect and promote the health, well-being, safety, and resilience of guests, crew, and local communities with which RCG engages.
- Lead the preparation for action in medical emergency or disaster situations impacting RCG.
- Represent the CMO and RCG in public forums including but not limited to media events, government hearings, community engagement activities addressing medical matters, as needed.
- Assist the CMO in ensuring the Medical Division’s initiatives are clinically sound and fiscally responsible.
- Effectively communicate relevant information to peers, the CMO, other department executives, and, if needed, to the corporate executives.
- Key partner in the development of strategic internal and external partnerships that are vital to departmental and corporate success.
- Support the CMO to work across other departments to communicate the medical organization’s objectives and to collaborate on solutions and process improvement.
- Maintain an operational-level understanding of all relevant business functions such as Procurement, Laboratory, IT, Human Resources, Finance, Medical Evacuation Services.
- Assist in overseeing electronic health record technical support, including software development needs and implementation of system updates.
- Assist CMO in managing all aspects of the staffing and operations of 60+ medical facilities onboard ships.
- Oversee and engage, at an executive level all clinical aspects of Crew Wellness, Pre/Re-Employment physicals, and Care Team operational programs.
- Keep current medical staff up to date on changing health regulations.
- Assist CMO and colleagues in implementing continuous quality improvement efforts, evaluating quality of services, and assessing professionals competency and performance.
- Assure all existing and hired personnel meet the highest professional standards
QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree in the medical field, M.D. or D.O.
- 12+ years’ experience leading a complex organization or department, preferably in a combination of hospital, research facility and private industry
- Proven successful execution in crisis management
- Experience working in international medical environments
- Have established work experience with regulatory agencies such as the CDC and WHO
- 10+ years’ experience in high pressure multiunit environment ideally geographically diverse
- Experience in occupational medicine and health care finance issues preferred.
- Extensive knowledge base of medical, public health and regulatory issues
- Skilled in giving public presentations to groups
- Ability to effectively communicate, speak to media, and represent the company in a public forum
- Experience working in critical care, emergency room or other acute or primary care settings
- Ability to work well in high pressure environments
- Experience in crisis management
- Authorized to work in the U.S
