Position Overview
The Wellness Nurse Navigator is a critical member of the shoreside Medical Operations team, supporting both shipboard and corporate health initiatives. This position focuses exclusively on the wellness and primary care of crew members, providing virtual nurse visits, creating nursing care plans, monitoring wellness program compliance, and collaborating closely with shipboard medical teams to ensure timely and effective healthcare management. The nurse will report directly to the nurse leader overseeing care management and collaborate with shipboard clinical staff on cases requiring immediate medical attention. The role is based in the Manila corporate office and plays a key part in sustaining our commitment to crew health. Travel may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities
· This role requires collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure high-quality care, focusing on the physiological, psychosocial, and safety needs of patients.
· Coordinate the continuation of Crew Wellness Programs, ensuring compliance and supporting long-term wellness initiatives.
· Provide patients with coaching to support self-management of chronic health conditions.
· Provide education including but not limited to importance of medication adherence, diet management, and exercise routines.
· Traveling to ships who require assistance with wellness program compliance.
· Conduct virtual consultations with crew members for medical follow-up, wellness evaluations, educational sessions, and other primary care services as needed.
· Ensure that crew members are seen by specialist(s) as needed
· Identify crew members with chronic medical conditions who may be at increased risk for complications.
· Review patient health risk assessments to formulate a nursing care plan
· Notify the Medical Operations and Risk Management teams of any crew members who may be at risk for medical debarkation.
· Collaborate with shipboard clinical staff for urgent care coordination and support.
· Participate in case review meetings for active or litigated medical cases and prepare summary reports of those patients.
· Maintain full understanding and adherence to all SQM policies and procedures.
· Ensure confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA and GDPR regulations.
· Perform other related duties as assigned or required by medical leadership.
Qualifications & Competencies
· Registered Nurse with strong clinical experience in wellness, education, and/or primary care.
· Minimum of 3 years in Case Management, Nurse Education, and/or Primary Care.
· Strong independent clinical judgment with the ability to evaluate complex cases and treatment plans.
· Proficient in interpreting and summarizing complex medical records.
· Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Analytical ability to perform basic math, analyze data, and interpret graphs or trends.
· Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of systems such as Lotus Notes, PeopleSoft, AIRTS, RMIS, and SeaCare.
Licensing, Credentialing & Compliance
· International RNs must be vetted through international credentialing agencies (e.g., CGFNS) if practicing with U.S. patient data
· All hires must comply with HIPAA, GDPR, and internal SQM protocols
Staffing the Wellness Nurse Navigator position is essential to expanding crew wellness initiatives, reducing medical debarkations, and strengthening readiness.
Language Requirements
· English – Advanced level required (written and spoken)
· A second language is strongly encouraged and considered a plus
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
· Regularly required to sit, stand, type, communicate, and review documentation and digital health records.
· Occasionally required to travel domestically or internationally, including boarding ships via gangways and walking across docks or terminals.
· Visual demands include near, far, and color vision with the ability to adjust focus as needed.
· Work Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday during standard office hours aligned with US EST, with occasional after-hours involvement as operational needs dictate.
