Job Summary
The General Manager is a strategic leader responsible for directing the operational project plans for Royal Beach Club Santorini. This role serves as the main point of contact for the 3rd party operator ensuring compliance with internal policies, risk controls, and regulatory requirements in all interactions.
The General Manager represents the organization in meetings with government officials, ensuring timely approvals, permits, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Working closely with the Director of Island Projects and Innovation, this leadership role oversees the successful implementation of operational strategies aligned with the Guest Experience vision established by Product Development and Private Destinations Operations.
The General Manager ensures the Operations Team has the necessary resources and support to deliver this vision effectively with Stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include executing pre-opening plans, such as workforce recruitment, owner supply coordination, procedure development, contractor integration, 3rd party management, government relations, team training, back of house & venue setup, and more to ensure a seamless launch and ongoing operation.
The General Manager provides strategic guidance and direction to achieve the long-term vision for Royal Beach Club, ensuring alignment with the company’s brand standards and performance objectives.
Responsibilities include project preparation, workforce planning, establishing timelines, and developing core operational procedures for both preopening and opening phases.
Proficiency in Greek language is required for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Government and Community Relations
- Meet with local government officials and local community business leaders and associations to promote the company interests and future projects/investments
- Develops and sustains strong partnerships with vendors; negotiates terms, manages vendor selection processes, and coordinate procurement activities
- Oversees vendor performance against contracts, SLAs, and quality standards; addresses gaps and drives corrective actions
- Collaborates with relevant Stakeholders to implement government regulations and standards that influence the operation
- Notifies the Director of Island Projects and Innovation of any compliance and operational needs upon review of site construction and punch list process
Project Support
- Collaborates with the Beach Clubs Director and Director of Projects and Innovation to create and execute the operational project plan and timelines for Critical Path items
- Attends meetings with key Stakeholders and presents operational plans progress within the project schedule
- Pursues continuous improvement by analyzing operational processes, troubleshooting issues, identifying opportunities, and initiating implementation efforts
- Reviews plans with the Director of Island Projects and Innovation and Beach Clubs Director to ensure operational plans effectively address Guest flow, accessibility, provisioning, transportation, pathways, waste management, storage needs, and enhance both Guest and Team Member experiences
- Verifies that all FF&E deliveries are accurate and rated for typical Private Destination environments
- Collaborates with Stakeholders to identify, contract, and onboard vendors and partners
- Actively monitors construction progress in collaboration with Director of Island Projects & Innovation and Private Destinations Technical Team, ensuring that operational standards are met as per the scope of work. Communicates any changes or deviations to relevant Stakeholders promptly
Workforce Management
- Supports the hiring of the core team for pre-opening phases and works on onboarding schedule and plans with Human Resources and Talent Acquisition Teams
- Ensures Job Descriptions, compensation, and benefits plans are created and ready prior to the start of recruitment
- Follows budgeted hiring schedule and participates in new hire interviews and candidate selection process
- Creates schedules and daily working patterns with Beach Club Director and Human Resources
- Supports the creation of onboarding and training with Stakeholders and implements training plans as per timeline
- Ensures all systems are in place and compliant with regional laws for timekeeping, payroll, travel, housing management, and more with SMEs
Documentation
- Creates full list of documents required for pre-opening within the framework defined by the Shoreside Leadership
- Identifies owners/authors for each document and manages the holistic creation of documents for review and approval
- Reviews all legal and statutory requirements and plans for all budgets, inspections, and document management to demonstrate compliance with the Beach Club Director and Business Operations Manager
- Works with the Private Destinations Team to develop key processes and policies for the Destinations. review and develop Play Books and Onboard Communication
- Adapts all documents and records that communicate headcount, organizational chart, time and attendance, disciplinary, Team Member schedule and rotations, accommodation, transport, etc. for the operation with Stakeholders
- Works with Stakeholders to review and develop Procedure Manual for the Shipboard Teams
- Manages and maintains comprehensive documentation of all aspects of the relationship between Private Destinations Operations, Product Development, and on-site Contractors
Implementation
- Collaborates with Stakeholders to develop and implement key plans, including the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), Inventory and Storage Management, Safety & Security, IT, and other related strategies
- Reviews and develops Training, Risk Management/Safety, Security, Public Health, and Environment Plans with relevant Stakeholders for a start-up operation
- Manages the receiving, storage, and installation of all Owner Supply items, ensuring organized, accurate, and efficient implementation
- Ensures the relevant Heads of Departments (HODs) distribute items for the setup of operation, ensuring disciplined delivery processes
- Coordinates and manages the dates and times for setting up venues, attractions, and beaches to ensure smooth operations with key Stakeholders
- Upon completion of construction, coordinates the handover process, including the transfer of FF&E specifications, certificates of occupancy, regulatory approvals, commissioning reviews, and more
- Completes punch lists in collaboration with the Director of Island Projects and Innovation and Private Destinations Technical Teams, tracking progress to ensure all items are addressed
- Assists with the commissioning, certification, and handover of all venues and attractions
- Manages the setup of venues and attraction in partnership with the Leadership Team, ensuring waste management systems are established prior to setup
- Coordinate and conducts all venue and attraction shakedown (dry runs) to confirm that both the destination and Team Members are prepared to deliver the expected Guest experience
Leadership
- Provides clear expectations to the workforce in terms of performance and conduct standards
- Establishes and maintains effective internal communications including regular meetings to ensure optimum teamwork and productivity
- Champions the company’s vision and values, as well as brand standards
- Regularly motivates, supports, and recognizes Team Members and management
- Motivates, coaches, trains, evaluates performance, and tracks the development of direct reports
- Always communicates professionally and courteously through physical and verbal interactions with Guests, Visitors, and Team Members
- Promotes a sense of collective ownership for the success of the team and company
- Fosters a harmonious and cooperative work environment
- Establishes and maintains strong cooperation with relevant internal and external Stakeholders
Financial Responsibilities:
- Develops the Owner’s Supply List collaboratively with Stakeholders, maintaining expert knowledge of its contents
- Ensures that critical spares, safety equipment, and a six-month supply of startup materials are appropriately requested
- Reviews all Purchase Requisition Forms (PRFs) related to the Owner’s Supply List in partnership with Product Development, ensuring proper internal tracking with PRF numbers and dates
- Identifies and requests necessary resources for implementation, including storage solutions, movement equipment, housing, permits, safety gear, waste management systems, and other essentials
- Collaborates with Stakeholders to ensure the property is equipped with adequate resources, infrastructure, and equipment to support operation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business management or related
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in resort management
- 5+ years as a General Manager in 4–5-star hotel or resort
- Operational experience complying with risk prevention plans, emergency action plans, waste management plans, and water safety plans is an advantage
- Pre-opening and new build experience are an advantage
- Previous work experience in an international environment is strongly preferred
- Experience in managing Guest satisfaction and Guest feedback
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Experience in a Quality Management System
- Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve issues on the spot
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work under stress and tight deadlines
Language Requirements:
- Ability to speak and read in Greek is required
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with Guests, Team Members, contractors, and vendors
- Excellent English reading and writing skills are required to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from Stakeholders
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The Team Member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- All Destination Team Members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency
Work Environment:
- Destination outdoor environment where high temperature, precipitation, and humid temperatures are experienced
- While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is required to work outdoors in extremely humid and hot conditions for an extended period of time, walking in sand, and uneven surfaces
